“Doesthis mean you’re saying yes?”

He didn’t dare hope too hard. Especially where Flora was concerned.

It wasn’t in the plan to tell her about Joseph. Not yet. Not unless she decided to go back to the vampires and have Callum turn her. Which she would. Joseph’s story would have scared any normal human, but Flora was anything but normal. It didn’t deter her from her need to be like him. Unfortunately for her, he’d do everything in his power to make sure she remained human and didn’t get lost in the bloodlust.

“Yes, Draven. I will be your mate.” The words rolled off her perfect lips like his favorite song.

A possessive growl left the back of Draven’s throat, but as it rumbled on, it almost sounded like a purr. She was turning him into a gods-damned cat. He wrapped his hand around her tangled hair and tipped her lips to his, crashing against them with every ounce of need he’d been harboring the last three days. He kissed her hard, and when Flora returned with a ferocity of her own, he forgot how to breathe. It was an overrated function of living he didn’t need. Not when he could inhale the lust-tangled mint that seeped from every inch of her. He pushed his tongue into her mouth with bruising force, and she wound her arms around his neck and crawled into his lap, wrapping her legs around his torso.

He sucked the moan from her lips as she rocked her hips over his, rubbing against every rock hard inch of his cock nestled between her thighs.

She was going to be the damn death of him.

Draven tugged her back so he could look her in the eye. He swiped a thumb across her bruised lips and smiled. “As much as I would love to take you hard and fast to show you just how mine you are, I have a surprise I think you’re going to like.”

Flora cocked a brow, her lips pulled in a delicious smirk. “You’d deny your mate?”

He almost took the bait. Almost rose to her challenge and fell to his knees to taste her intoxicating arousal right then and there. But he didn’t. He needed to show her he could be more than his wolf. He could be more than his vampire. He could be her mate. A category all on its own that he intended to dominate.

He leaned in and tugged her lower lip between his teeth and pulled, teasing her with the scrape of his fang. “Oh my mate, don’t tempt me. I can smell the sweet arousal of your already-dripping cunt. My wolf is begging me to feast on what is to be ours for the rest of forever.”

A gorgeous pink filled her cheeks, and Flora clenched her thighs around his torso.

“Don’t tease me, Bubbles. I’m hanging on by a thread.” Tightening his grip on her ass, he reached with his free hand and picked up a bundle of furs. “I suggest you hang on tight.”

Without giving her a moment to wonder what he was up to, Draven stood with her in his arms and took off through the door of the cabin and into the woods. A tiny shriek escaped her, and Flora scrambled to grab hold of him.

His chest shook with laughter.

She was perfect.

And she was his.

His wolf gave a playful yip despite the fact that he was on edge, pacing with the need to claim his mate. He realized Draven and Flora needed this too. It was their connection that made them so much more than just mates blessed by the moon. The moments together that forged them in their humanity. It was a centric part of who they were; and Draven needed to hold on to that.

That didn’t mean that his wolf would be patient forever. The growly bastard had driven him bat shit crazy the last three days, finding every reason to stalk the cabin between hunts. Lingering for any hint of her scent. It was a miracle he could even consider mating Flora with how often he licked himself raw to ease the ache of being separated from her.

It had been worth the wait, though. She’d said yes. He’d been fully prepared to grovel for the next fifty years if she’d demanded it from him, but his Luna said yes.

The trees and plants were a blur of pinks and purples on either side of them as he wove them through the forest. The small rabbit-like animals scurried out of their path and it took total restraint not to chase after them, catch them, and lay them at Flora’s feet. The small gasp and smile stretched across her face told him she had no idea that’s what she’d been eating for the past three days. She would probably think they were cute as hell.

It was a secret he’d take to his grave if it kept that smile on her face.

He tried to concentrate on where he was running, but his eyes kept wandering to the woman in his arms. He could watch the world through her eyes for eternity. He hoped to.

Draven pushed away the whisper in his mind, reminding him how short their time would be together; how fleeting these moments of mortal life were. They were moments of pure happiness. Uncorrupted, unstained by bloodlust.

When they were around the bend from their destination, he set her down gently and righted the furs around her shoulders.

Flora glanced around them, “Where are we?”

He tucked a wind-blown blonde curl behind her hair and leaned down to press a kiss to her forehead.“I found this place when I was mapping the realm and hunting the shadow wolves.”

“That’swhy you were gone for three days,” Flora gasped, as if it was an incredible feat.

He nodded, his wolf preening and puffing his chest out. Flora’s eyes smoldered and what was once an innocent look filled with heat as she raked her eyes down his bare chest. If she kept looking at him like that, he wasn’t going to be able to hold off his wolf. As it was, between her bare flesh and intoxicating scent, he was seconds away from going into a frenzy.

Draven swallowed hard.
