Grinning back, I asked, “What you mean? The note said to call you.”

“Yes,callme. Not an unsolicited Facetime,” she explained, laughing a bit as she continued, “I’m actually finishing up at work right now though. Can I call you back when I leave?”

“Just come through,” I suggested. “I’ll be here.”

Her expression initially turned skeptical, but eventually she agreed, “Fine. I’ll see you soon.” And once the call was ended, I plopped my ass down on the couch for a nap that might’ve carried me through the night had I not been awakened by the doorbell ringing.

“Why didn’t you just use the key?” I asked once I finally answered it, Yani frowning as she slipped in past me and responded, “I can’t just be busting all up in your house, Lance.” Then she waited in the foyer as I locked the door behind us, my eyes squinted once I turned around and noticed what she was wearing.

“Is that my shirt?”

Glancing down at it like she’d forgotten she had it on, Yani explained, “Yeah, I woke up late and panicked thinking I didn’t have enough time to go back home and get dressed for work.”

“Yani, your dad’s crib is literally five minutes away,” I responded with a chuckle that only made her whine when she defended, “I told you I panicked.”

“So you didn’t have enough time to go home and get dressed, but somehow ended up with some sneakers that perfectly matched my shirt?”

Even though she did look good as hell in my shit, her story was starting to sound a little fishy until she answered, “These are the shoes I wore over here last night.”

“Guess I was too busy looking at your ass and thighs in those little ass shorts you had on to notice,” I commented, biting my lip at the memory as Yani gave a playful roll of her eyes.

“Anyway. Why do you look so tired?”

“Shit, because I am,” I responded, leading us to the living room where I plopped back down on the couch while telling her, “I was actually sleep ‘til I heard the doorbell ring. But you said you wanna talk, so come on. Let’s talk.”

For whatever reason, that seemed to make her a little nervous as she took the seat next to mine, notably keeping some space between us when she started, “Okay, so clearly there’s something happening here between me and you, right? But like, you were obviously very recently involved with someone else. And I was kinda involved with someone else,so…”

“Wait,” I interrupted. “Since when were you involved with someone else?”

“Remember that night we went to Whataburger?”

“You said that wasn’t a date,” I reminded her, already frowning as she explained, “It wasn’t. But that’s when I met him, and we went out a couple times. He actually took me to your game yesterday.”

If I had a record player going, the vinyl definitely would’ve gotten scratched at that shit.

I mean, on one hand I was amused that her ass had, in fact, shown up to one of my games after swearing she wouldn’t. But on the other hand, I was honestly a little offended as I sat up to ask, “You were at my game with another nigga, Yani?”

“Not on purpose,” she immediately defended, though her attitude about it seemed to change a little when she added, “I mean, not that I couldn’t be.” And even though I knew she was right, I still wasn’t feelin’ that shit, grateful that there was more to her story once she explained, “He surprised me with tickets, and there wasn’t a reason for me to be weird about it other than the fact that we’d kissed, so I went. But then as the night went on, and I watched you dominate, all I could think about was you...manhandlingme the same way.”

“Which is why you messaged me claiming you wanted to talk when you actually just wanted to finish what you started in your dad’s kitchen.”

Snapping her head back, she repeated, “WhatIstarted? I’m pretty sureyouwere the one who kissedme.”

“And you kissed me back, so...”

“Are we really doing this?” Yani asked amusedly, the smirk on her face prompting me to close the bit of space she’d left between us when I responded, “I’d rather be doing something else, but you insisted that we talk. So talk,Briyana.”

The way her gaze immediately dropped to my lips told me exactly what was on her mind as I leaned in closer for a kiss that would’ve only been that had Yani kept her hands to herself. But when she turned her body so that she could wrap her fingers against the back of my neck, that made it way too easy for me to pull her into my lap where she lowkey started dryhumping my shit in a straddled position until she pushed herself away saying, “Okay. Seriously, Lance.”

“I’m listening,” I told her, my hands resting on her thighs as she finally got back to what we’d been talking about.

“Why did you kiss me in the first place?”

“I already told you, Yani. Racquel wasn’t wrong about me having feelings for you.”

“I mean, since when though?” she asked, my eyebrow raising as I responded, “You want an exact date?”

“Lance...”
