She didn’t have enough energy to pull the covers over herself. She could feel the heat in her cheeks as she smiled up at him. “Good morning.”

“Want me to make you some coffee?” He dropped his lips to hers, lingering as if they had all day.

She sighed and nodded. She’d been right about him being the type to wake up without anything to encourage him. While that was a particularly nice way to start the day, she still needed her caffeine. “Yes, please.”

He leaned down and kissed the tip of her nose. A warmth rushed through her. He left the bed and put on his clothes from yesterday while she rolled over and grabbed her phone. It was actually later than she thought.

Jonah opened the door at the same time another door opened.

“Morning, Lac—” Sophie’s voice cut off.

Jonah stood there in the door frame. Oh, shit. Heart racing, Lacy couldn’t see Sophie, but she quickly slipped on a pair of pajamas.

“What—”

Lacy could almost imagine Sophie standing there trying to figure out what to say. A man had never come out of Lacy’s bedroom before. The other two bedrooms. . . yeah. Lacy had to greet at least a few guys before coffee because they were sneaking out of either Brenda’s or Sophie’s room.

Lacy hurried to the door and slid beside Jonah. Oh, crap, now she had to say something to diffuse this situation. But her mind went completely blank. Jonah just stood there. Sophie’s wide eyes darted between Jonah and Lacy, while she held her robe together with both hands like she was the prude of the group.

“Umm,” Lacy said, almost smacking herself in the head. Smooth. Totally what was needed in this situation.

Sophie’s eyes returned to their normal size and softened. “I’m going to go finish getting ready for work.”

She narrowed her eyes at Jonah for a second before going around them to get to her door.

Lacy released a breath and finally looked up at Jonah. His expression was blank. She reached for his hand and held onto it for a moment.

“Jonah?”

As soon as she said his name, he turned and drew her into his arms. “I should have made sure the coast was clear.”

“It’s not a big deal.” She smiled as she rested her head against his chest.

He released her and tipped her face up to his. “You wanted to keep this secret.”

“At least we won’t have to sneak around anymore.” She shrugged, feeling calmer. “Here.”

His lips thinned for a moment before he nodded. He kissed her and grabbed the tag sticking out of her shirt in the front. He said softly, “You’re a little turned inside out and backwards this morning, little bird.”

A grin tugged at her cheeks. “I was in a hurry and haven’t had coffee.”

“Let me get on that.” Jonah released her and walked away to the kitchen. She closed the bedroom door and fixed her clothes before heading to the bathroom to clean up a little.

It shouldn’t be a big deal for Sophie to know about her and Jonah. After all, Sophie really didn’t have any room to chastise Lacy for sleeping with someone. Sure, their roommate might not have been the best choice, but she and Jonah weren’t hurting anyone.

She finally finished and went into the hallway, more awake than usual without her morning coffee. Morning sex followed by Sophie discovering Jonah coming out of her room would do that to a person. She shrugged it off as she followed the scent of coffee.

Jonah sat at the table with two mugs. He pushed her chair out with his foot and she dropped into it.

“Thank you.”

He nodded at her as he sipped his coffee.

Sophie’s door opened and the tension returned to Lacy’s spine. She knew Sophie well enough to know she needed to process what she saw before she had her say. When Sophie walked into the kitchen and poured herself a mug without looking at Jonah and Lacy, Lacy knew they were in for it.

Lacy held her breath as Sophie put creamer and sugar into her coffee before she headed to the table and sat across from them. She positioned her coffee mug directly in front of her and raised her eyes to Lacy.

“You good?” Sophie asked.
