And then… nothing.

My eyes popped open to find him clenching his jaw. It was like a balloon had deflated. The sound of my heart un-swelling could almost be heard filling the room.

“Why do you do this to me?” I glanced down at the erection straining against the zipper of his dark blue dress pants. “To yourself?” I looked back up at him. “To us?”

“He’s going to be there.” Grey’s voice was strained.

My pulse pounded in my ears. “Who?”

“You know who.”

I knew who.

“He’s her brother,” Grey continued.

Right. Of course, Lincoln would be at his sister’s wedding.

The air felt tight in my lungs. “Is he going alone?”

Please say he’s going alone.I had no right to wish that when thirty seconds ago, I’d wanted another man’s mouth on mine, a man who, for all intents and purposes, was my husband.

“I don’t know.”

“I thought you knew everything.”

Grey chuckled. “I don’t know that.” He dropped his hands from my face and sat down beside me on the bed. “But if you need me… if you find it’s too much for you… I won’t be far away.”

Silence stretched across time and space. A storm of emotions wrapped around me, threatening to swallow me whole. Fear. Anticipation.Hope.

He was going to be there.

I was going to see Lincoln.
