IfeelLuke’sgazeon me like a caress. I glance towards the bar where I last saw him. He watches me, half listening to Jordy as he sips his beer. My face heats, knowing the filthy things he’s thinking about doing to me. Everyone keeps talking about our debauchery in our hidden oasis at the resort. I should have known they wouldn’t be able to let it go.

But it’s hard to care what they think after the amazing night I spent under the stars in Luke’s arms. I’ve never felt more alive or at home in my life.

The moment I forgave him, it was like a weight lifted and I could breathe again. Everything was right in the world. I’ll never forget the love that poured out of him. It was humbling and intense and something I’ll cherish for the rest of my life.

We were both insatiable, and after a few more hours that forced us to give in to our exhaustion, we realized that our hope for more comfortable lovemaking wasn’t possible with our current living situation. So, after a long kiss goodnight, he dropped me back off home, well past midnight.

Tomorrow, everyone but Mark, Luke, and Dylan are heading home. Dylan will leave next week when Fox comes out to replace him. I can’t even look at Garrett without breaking down in tears. I’m going to miss him so much. But I know we’ll be following them soon. I’ll have to say goodbye to this sleepy town, but it’s time to go home with the man I love.

The unforgettable hours we spent at the resort didn’t even put a dent into the lost time we need to make up for. The sexual tension is back with a vengeance. I lick my lips and his nostrils flair. I turn away from him before I combust on the spot.

“Jesus. He’s going to impregnate you from across the room. Maybe you should just go to a hotel,” Vera says.

I set my drink down and sigh. “No. You guys are leaving tomorrow, and Uncle Mike said he’ll stay with Charlotte for a few days to give us some privacy.”

“Your uncle is so cool. And hot as fuck. Too bad he’s taken. Might solve my problems.” She stirs her cocktail with her straw and sighs.

“Gross. Also, no it wouldn’t.”

She watches Garrett and Tina as they dance, sighing and downing the rest of her drink in big gulps. She spent the night with Garrett after our party at the lake, but they only stayed up talking until dawn. He made it clear he cared about her, but he felt they were in different places in life and that she should be with Brando. She’s been miserable ever since. I’m trying hard not to rub my happiness in her face, even though she told me she doesn’t mind.

Brando approaches and smiles at us. “Want to dance, Kitten?”

She sets her drink on the table. “Might as well.” She takes his hand, and they talk as he guides her to the dance floor.

Luke wraps his arms around me from behind and pulls me close. “I thought she’d never leave,” he says low in my ear, and I giggle before I spin in his arms and wrap my hands around his neck. He sways me to the beat of the crooning country tune as he eats me up with his eyes.

“My place or yours?”

“Mine, but we have to come back. We’re supposed to be spending quality time with our friends.”

“They can wait,” he says before he kisses me, sending heat raging through my body.

Someone clears their throat and we part. Barbara wrings her hands together, panic written all over her face.

“Mom, what’s wrong?”

Luke releases me and takes my hand as his focus shifts to fixing whatever problem just came up.

“It’s your dad. He wasn’t feeling well and went to the bathroom, but I can’t find him.”

I look around the bar but don’t see him.

“It’s ok. We’ll find him,” Luke says, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. She nods and takes a deep breath.

Luke glances at Mark across the bar and he excuses himself from his conversation with my uncle and makes his way to us.

Luke checks the men’s restroom but shakes his head as he reappears. “He’s not in there.”

“Maybe he went outside for some air?” Mom suggests, pointing to the heavy door leading to the back of the bar.

Something in the back of my mind niggles at me and I tense. Luke turns to me. “You ok?”

I shake my head. “Something’s wrong. I can feel it,” I whisper.

Mark joins us and we walk to the end of the hall out into the night. The door slams shut behind us, making me jump.
