Luke

“Whatdoyoumeanshe’s gone?” I stare at Dylan as my blood races. We’re in the gym. Brando and Mark grow tense with every word he says.

“She left last night.”

“Where did she go?” I ask.

“I can’t tell you that. But she’s safe. Garrett is with her.”

“Tell me what you know.”

He sighs. “I’m only telling you because it’s part of the contract. It states I have to tell you if she goes anywhere. I don’t have to tell you where.”

I get in his face. “Are you seriously throwing the fine print at me right now?”

Dylan’s jaw ticks and he takes a calming breath, but he stands his ground. “She’s struggling, Luke. She needs time.” His voice is calm. And fuck him for being right.

I turn from him and face Mark, running my hands through my hair. I stare at the spot on the ground where Liv almost bled out. The mats are replaced so there’s no sign of the horror that occurred, but my eyes always stop over the place where I almost lost everything.

I spin back to Dylan. “You swear on her life that she’s safe?”

He nods without hesitation. “Yes.”

Liv is his family. He would never put her in danger. That I trust wholeheartedly. I sigh and nod.

“How long will she be gone?”

“I don’t know.”

“What’s going on?” Jackson says as he and Jordy walk into the gym with Skye.

“Liv skipped town with Garrett, and Dylan won’t tell us shit,” Brando explains.

Jordy meets my eyes with a knowing look.

“What?”

Jordy sighs. “Don’t go after her. Take the hint and give her some space. You knew this wouldn't be easy.”

I cross my arms. “How am I supposed to keep her safe if I don’t know where she is?”

“You trust Garrett to do his job,” Dylan says.

I stare at him for a minute. “She went with her dad, didn’t she?” It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out the only other place she’d feel safe.He just shrugs, but I know I’m right.

“So, what am I supposed to do?”

“You wait for her to calm down, then you go fight for her,” Dylan says.

“What makes you think she wants me to?” I could have sworn she was about to tell me to stay before Amber interrupted us. I could see it in her eyes that the idea of me leaving didn't sit well. But doubt crept in after she got home from the hospital. It killed me every time she recoiled from me, but I could tell she wanted my comfort too.

He stares at me for a long minute, then sighs. “Liv is running scared. I don’t blame her at all for it, but once she stops running, you need to be there. That’s all I’m going to say.”

Now that I can do. I just hope when the time comes, she’ll let me catch her and it won’t be too late.

I follow Fox and Mark into the conference room at Maddox, and we take a seat. Dylan strides in a few minutes later and sets his laptop on the table. He starts typing, not looking at us.

“Good morning, sunshine,” Fox says as he swivels his chair from side to side.
