16 - SIMON

I woke up to bright sunlight stinging my eyes, thinking my earlier escapades were a dream for a fleeting moment until I looked down, not recognizing the lavender sheets wrapped around my waist. I threw one hand over my face and the other across the bed, jerking up with a start when my hand brushed against nothing. The opposite side of the bed was empty and cold, so I stilled my movements, listening for any noises. When all remained quiet, I swung my legs over the side of the bed and winced when the light hit my face.

Damn gray eyes.

I knew they were my best feature, but the same lack of pigment that gave my eyes their signature shade also gave me a massive headache if the sunlight caught me at the wrong angle. I rubbed my temples as I stood, making my way to the bathroom and perusing her dresser and counter.

The bathroom was decorated in pastel purple and shades of teal, making the entire room look like one gigantic Easter egg. Unlike downstairs, where there wasn’t a personal touch in sight, her bathroom was crammed with more products and bottles than four pharmacies. Lotions, lipsticks, face cream, and jars of things I couldn’t identify covered every inch of the counter, barely leaving enough space for hand soap and her toothbrush.

The walk-in shower had built-in shelves filled with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, while the clawfoot tub had a dozen bubble baths lining the edge. I stepped into the shower with a chuckle, turning the water as hot as possible before searching for a towel. Her linen closet was color-coded to perfection, and I chuckled again at the drastic difference between the bathroom and the rest of her place.

With a purple towel securely wrapped around my waist, I stepped out of the shower squeaky clean with a half-hard dick because I smelled like fucking sugar and candy. I was doomed to forever have a dessert fetish, but I couldn’t bring myself to care. Not after I’d crashed through her door, then fucked her against it.

At least I knocked first.

I’d been obsessed with how she smelled since the first night at the party, but now that I’d tasted her and had been inside her, there was no going back. A shrill ring interrupted my hand from traveling down to my cock, and I looked around, recognizing my ringtone.

“Hey, honey,” I said, putting my phone on speaker and then removing the towel to dry my hair. “Why’d I wake up alone this morning?”

Her sigh was audible through the speaker, making me pause and think some big speech about her regretting what we did was coming. I sat on the edge of the bed and draped the towel over my shoulders, hanging my head and waiting for the inevitable. A sheen of sweat broke across my forehead as my treacherous heart ramped up its beating.

Stupid Simon. Breathe. You pushed her. Breathe.

“Our intern, Charlotte, called me earlier asking for help with an issue. You looked too peaceful to wake. There’s coffee downstairs.”

The breath I’d been holding released with a whoosh, and I shook my head, feeling my cheeks heat. It was hard not to assume the worst, but this would be over before we gave it a chance if I kept jumping to conclusions. If she even wanted to give this a chance, which she probably wouldn’t.

Mother fucker, get a grip.

My thoughts were more twisted than a pretzel, and I swallowed, throwing the towel toward the bathroom.

“Are you okay? You’re not sniffing my underwear drawer or anything, right?”

I gawked and rolled my shoulders. “No, honey, but I showered with a few pairs, so you’ll have some extra laundry to do later.”

“Whatever floats your boat, Thor. I should have known your precious alabaster skin would need to wash with satin instead of my scratchy cotton washcloths. I hope you remembered to moisturize.”

My clothes were folded on the dresser, and I grabbed my briefs and the phone, cradling it between my shoulder and neck before pulling them on. Her teasing tone had my anxiety melting, and when I looked up and saw my reflection in the mirror, a man with bright eyes and a giddy grin stared back.

“Lucky for me, you had fifteen different lotions for me to choose from.”

“Fifteen? Ouch. You must have forgotten to check the drawers. But seriously, I’m sorry for leaving so suddenly.”

“Don’t worry about it, honey. I was prepared for a long speech about you regretting what happened, so finding out there’s coffee waiting for me was a pleasant surprise. I hope all is well with Charlotte.”

“It will be, hopefully. That’s another reason I called. I’ll be here a while longer and won’t make the hospital ribbon-cutting or checking on the Seabee house’s progress.”

“What can I help with, honey?”

The tightness in her voice made me want to pull her on my lap, tangling my fingers in her hair. I’d press soft-as-silk kisses to her plump, dainty mouth, calming her overactive emotions. Those little pleasurable sighs would spill from her lips as I pulled her closer. But since that wasn’t an option, I could at least help with her errands. I’d take any excuse to get out of the ribbon-cutting.

A ray of sunlight cut through the window, and I swore, walking over and closing the curtains. Seriously, were there no clouds in the sky?

“What’s the weather supposed to be like today?” I asked.

“I don’t know, but if you play your cards right there’ll be a collision of two warm fronts later.”

“A sexy weather pun? One more of those and I’ll do whatever you want,” I chuckled, knowing I’d do whatever she asked.
