After a few seconds, Barry answers, looking disheveled. Realizing it’s me, he rushes to fix his shirt. “Reid.” He glances behind briefly. “I didn’t think you’d come to see me.” I detect a mixture of relief and awkwardness in his gruff voice.
I shrug. “Can we talk?”
He harrumphs and opens the door for us to enter.
As I step past him into the studio, a surge of surprise jolts my body. “Mom?”
She’s smoothing her palms down her dress. I notice her blazer is on the chair. Her hair isn’t in a ponytail like she usually wears it for work. It’s messy, and so are the sheets on the bed.
I stagger back as the situation becomes clear. “Wow. You’re unbelievable.”
“Reid… Let me explain.”
Grabbing Cassie, I pull her past a concern-looking Barry and storm out the door.
“Reid!” Mom calls after me.
I don’t stop.
Hurrying into the car with Cassie, I speed down the street and slam my hands on the wheel.
I can’t believe my mom was with Barry after urging me not to see him.
What a hypocrite.
