After our relationship confession and learning the detail in Grandfather’s will, we didn’t do much for the rest of the Saturday. Uncle Jeff remained displeased, but he seemed less pissed at my mom by the end of the day.

Our lawyer stops by early, sacrificing his Sunday morning to explain the papers to Cassie. She doesn’t hesitate for a second, signing away the opportunity to control half of the business and the massive inheritance our Grandfather left.

It doesn’t matter because I intend to split everything with her in the future. But I understand she doesn’t want to marry me by force.

Mom convinces Uncle Jeff to go sailing since they’re leaving tomorrow, and he loosens up enough to agree. We take off for the outing with Genevieve.

The air feels lighter as everyone enjoys being on the large boat, basking in the warm day.

Cassie and I haven’t had a moment aside from sneaking out to the fort in the late hours. We keep it cool around our parents, and it’s tough not touching her when we’re in the same space.

I’ve had an ache in my stomach since the start of the weekend, and it’s only growing.

After tomorrow, Cassie and I will be apart for months. I can’t let our summer end on a dry note, so I text my friends to meet on the beach later.

Returning home around the evening, I stall with Cassie in the entry. “Um, we’re meeting with friends. They’d like to say goodbye to Cassie.”

A sweet smile curls her lips. She flicks to her parents and my mom.

Uncle Jeff screws up his face and grumbles something under his breath.

Aunt Deanna rubs his arm, saying, “Go on. But not too late. We have an early flight, Cass.”

“I won’t be.”

Holding her hand, I tow Cassie back out the front door and head for the garage.

As we settle in my Jaguar, she asks, “Can we ride on the bike one more time?”

I smile while nodding.

She leans over for a soft kiss, and I pull out of the garage once she relaxes back in the seat.

Reaching the storage pod minutes later, I swap the car for the bike. Cassie clings to me tightly as I peel off down the road, riding until the sky darkens.

I take the long way to the beach to enjoy the moment as much as possible. Turning at the sign, I pull into the parking area, and we hop off the bike.

Cassie utters a deep sigh as she removes her helmet. “I’m going to miss riding with you.”

I smirk. “And to think you were scared at first.”

She playfully pushes me back.

Leaving the helmets on the bike, we hold hands as we stroll down the beach towards our friends.

“Cassie!” Michelle bellows, raising a cup. “Girl, I’m going to miss you!”

Both her and Nichole hug Cassie when she reaches them.

“I had so much fun with you guys,” Cassie gushes. “At least I’ll see you at Penn, Nichole.”

“Yeah. I’m glad we’re going to the same college.”

“Can I get a hug, too?” Mark playfully whines.

Giggling, Cassie lets him swoop her into his arms.
