I haven’t told anyone here that I have Keratoconus. There’s just so much to deal with that I don’t want to add another. Naturally, I’ve been careful with my contacts, but last night wasn’t something I was thinking about. I was focused on helping Walt.

“Help me, please?” I ask.

“Sure.” He responds and Walt’s words from last night come back to me.

Another way that you can help me is giving me good morning kisses. I like those. They calm me.

I didn’t agree nor did I disagree, so instead of giving him an answer; I stop moving and turn to face him. I pull him down by his shirt and stretch to the tips of my toes, kissing him on the lips. Walt doesn’t immediately kiss me back, and I know he’s just probably shocked that I’m doing what he wants me to do.

“Everie, baby, my brother? My twin?” I hear Walt says, but he doesn’t sound so close to me.

“What?” I say, taking a step back, and then I feel Walt’s hands land on my shoulder. I know it’s his because my body immediately relaxes, but was it on high alert before?

“Good morning, Everie.”

“It’s Everest.” Walt corrects with no bite to his tone.

“Whit!” My eyes widen and then I move closer until we’re practically chin to chest. I squint harder. “Oh my God.” I say. “Oh, my God. It’s happened again!”

“Again?” Both men question.

“Yeah,” I cover my face. “I grabbed Günter’s junk before. It was very…”

“Don’t even finish that sentence.” Walt growls. “I should kick Günter’s ass and you can’t see us?”

“Not really. I have Keratoconus. It’s very much a progressive eye disease and causes loss of vision.”

“I haven’t seen you wear your glasses lately.” Walt states.

“I normally have hard contacts, but I slept with them last night and my eyes are burning, so I have to avoid them for a week or two. I came in here to ask for your help to find my glasses.” I say to Walt.

“And ended up kissing my brother, huh?” He teases and I feel the heat creeping onto my face.

“It wasn’t on purpose.” I say

“Don’t be apologetic, Everie,” Whit says with a teasing tone. “Walt and I are even now. He’s kissed my girl.”

“And now you’re kissing my girlfriend?” Walt asks.

“Girlfriend?” I repeat.

“Don’t play with me, Everie. You want me to help you find your glasses?” Walt asks.

“Yes, please.”

“I’ll only help my girlfriend find her glasses.”

My eyes narrow at him, even though I can’t see the look on his face. Reaching to my back pocket, I unlock my phone and bring it up close to my face, asking voice command to call my private eye clinic that specializes in my case.

“Hello, Bautista Clinic?” The receptionist says as I place her on speaker.

“Hi, it’s me, Everest. How long will it take you to bring me a new pair of hard contacts to an address that I’ll provide you?”

“Oh, Miss Bautista. One second, let me ask Dr. Jamie… Miss Bautista, Dr. Jamie says, end of day today.”

“Okay, good. I’ll text him the details. Thank you.” I hang up.

“Miss Bautista, huh?” Walt teases.

I blindly reach out for him and the smile grows on my face when he places his hand in mine. “Come on, girlfriend, let’s get your glasses so you can see that me and my twin aren’t the same person.”

“You’re never going to let this go, will you?” I ask.

“Nope.” Walt chuckles right along with Whit.
