Now, let me show you one of mine. Call this number.

345-675-8875

Xo.

Your number One fan bc there won’t be a number Two.

I pick up my phone and dial the number… After it rings a couple times, a voice picks up.

“Hello?” I hear his voice and inhale a breath. “Hello?” He says again and I keep myself from crying because I haven’t heard his voice in years. “Everest? Is that you? Everie?”

“Hunter…” I breathe his name out.

“My Sunflower. I finally get to hear your voice.”

“Ho-, How?” I ask.

“Some psycho named Rager said that he would connect me with you. He called me and said that he’s been looking for me for 4 years now, but he’s had to fight coming to the surface, whatever that means.”

“I miss you, Hunter.”

“I miss you too, sunflower.”

“Where are you? I want to see you again. It’s been so long.”

“Not right now. I have to lay low for a while. You won’t hear from me over the phone, but just know I’m watching your back. Don’t worry about mom, she won’t ever bother you again. As for what those bastards did, what they did to you… you won’t have to watch your back anymore. I said I would always protect you and find your enemies. I mean it.”

“Hunter…” A few tears slip, and I dab them away.

“I love you, Sunflower. I’ll always love you, but I can’t be around you. One day, I’ll get the chance to tell you everything that I’ve done. If you need anything, you know the signal to reach me.”

“I love you, Hunter.”

He hangs up, and I take a moment to collect my feelings. Without thinking, I call Walt. With each ring, I feel dejected, and when the phone goes to voicemail; I want to cry. No, no… He just needs some time. Just like Rowe said.

With the release of a breath, I check myself one more time and then walk over to exit the dressing room, putting my shades on so they can’t see my red eyes.

“How do I look?” I ask everyone.

“You look like Zombie dad’s very first conniption,” Rowe answers. “Let me just…” He lifts his phone and snaps a picture of me. He chuckles to himself as he types away on his phone.

Rager whistles and I want to hug him, but I won’t do it now because then I’ll cry. No more crying. It’s time to celebrate.

“So, what do you want to do, Everie?” Moonlight asks.

I blink, not knowing how to tell them I haven’t celebrated or did anything for myself since my 6th birthday. What would Walt do? I ask myself, and then I look at the very first person Walt seems to always notice in a room.

“Rowe, where’s your place to eat? What would you suggest?”

Rowe looks up at me. “What are you craving?” He asks.

After speaking to my brother, I’m craving the one thing we always liked to eat together. “A chili cheese dog with a vanilla shake and fries on the side.” I say.

Rowe smiles. “That’s easy. Everyone follow me.” Rowe says and we all go.
