“What can you tell me about yourself?”

I felt myself frowning. There was nothing concrete in my head?

I scrubbed my face. The irritation was setting in again.

“Nothing!”

My anger had my eyes snapping open.

The same man was there, but a blond man with long hair was with him

“You may notice that you’re no longer restrained. Trust me and I’ll trust you. Break my trust and I’ll finish what someone else started,” the boss threatened.

The silent one continued to study me; he tilted his head and moved around the bed. My eyes followed him until his gigantic hands cupped my head.

“Blank,” he said, then looked back at the boss.

“What does that mean?” I asked as I looked between the two.

“It means someone bashed your head in and left you for dead. The injuries gave you a severe case of amnesia,” the blond one told me without preamble.

“Who?”

I dropped my head back and closed my eyes. Nothing was making sense. The person I was had disappeared, but I didn’t know how. An image of a violent flash of light with something falling dangerously towards me was so vivid that I popped up fast.

“Did you remember something?” The boss asked while the blond one looked ready to knock me out.

“Not really. A flash of something I can’t quite grasp.” I looked up at both of them. “Who are y’all?”

“I’m Tucker,” the boss said. He tilts his head toward his partner. “That’s Tennesse, but the more important questions are who are you, and who tried to kill you.”

Tears of frustration ran down my cheeks. “I have no clue.”

“Lucky for you, we’re trained to help you.”

“Where did you go, Walt?”

I look at my phone with a smirk. Tucker’s serious face fills the screen.

“I was remembering how we met.”

Tucker nods thoughtfully, with a hint of a smirk. “You were in so much pain, real and phantom. It’s good seeing you on the other side.”

I smile as I think about my wife. We’ve come so far as a couple; I can’t imagine loving anyone the way that I love her. She followed me amid my freak out instead of walking away. My world was blank, and while I do not still have the entire picture, she’s filled it with so much meaning. Marrying her was like seeing the light at the end of a very, very long tunnel.

“Thank you for keeping me afloat,” I tell him, without trying to hide any of my gratitude.

“You did the work. I was just the guide. Let’s talk about the yacht. Did it bring back anything?”

I shake my head, remembering how I felt at that moment. It’s a fear that I don’t like and would love to not have them in the future. I was happy to leave the yacht for dinner. It makes me feel bad that we’ve been home for a week, and I haven’t seen the one she’s bought me yet. Everie understands, and that’s all that matters.

We’d all gone our separate ways after that night, each couple splitting up to do their own thing. Everie and I fell back into our love bubble. It was bliss.

“The details are still fuzzy, but the whiskey gave me a bad feeling that I couldn’t shake. I don’t know if it’s connected to just the drink or something more.”

“Do you think you’re ready to walk the old yacht to see what shakes loose?”

The mention of it makes my stomach knot. I know I need to do it eventually, but the fear of the unknown still exists. Do I want to know all of my secrets? What if there is more to me and Anika that meets the eye?
