CHAPTER14

Annabella

I can’t believe it’s been two weeks since we last saw each other in person. Video chatting just wasn’t the same. It was better than a text or a phone call, but I wanted to hold his hand, hug him, kiss him and so much more. We’d agreed not to be intimate at his father’s house, which I never would’ve done anyway. Tonight it was just him and me, and I could barely wait.

Although I was thrilled to be able to pick him up at the airport in my Mustang, I missed certain benefits of driving the limo. There was special assigned parking for limousines. Now I’m stuck driving around until I can spot him. He had sent me a text that he had landed, so he should be out anytime, but this was my third trip around the arrival gate.

When I was just about to pull away from the curb again before the TSA told me to move it along, I spotted him. I rolled down the passenger window and shouted his name.

Colton spotted me immediately, put his bag in the trunk, and climbed in the passenger seat. “Sorry, I was looking for the limo for some reason.”

“You didn’t book one,” I teased.

“This is even better.” He leaned over and kissed me lightly, then said, “We’d better get going before they kick us out.”

Pulling away from the curb, I asked, “How was your flight?”

“Bumpy. A lot of turbulence tonight.”

I wasn’t really a fan of flying, so a trip like that would’ve had me rattled all night. “It sounds like a night at home with a movie and a bottle of wine might help.”

“We can even skip the movie if you want,” he said, reaching over and placing his hand on my thigh.

I almost skipped a gear as I shifted into fourth. “No distracting the driver,” I warned.

He pulled his hand away and said, “Yes ma’am. But I’m blaming you.”

“Me?” I turned to look at him briefly before putting my eyes back on the very busy road. “What did I do?”

“First of all, you’re wearing a white t-shirt with a red bra underneath. You know how I feel about red,” he said.

And that’s why I went out and purchased these undergarments.

“You may have mentioned it. I didn’t realize how sheer my shirt was,” I said, trying my best to sound innocent.

“Are there any more surprises for me?” he asked.

“You’ll have to wait and see,” I replied. “But I may have picked up a quart of your favorite ice cream.”

“Damn, Annabella. You’re going to make it hard for me to go back home.”

We hadn’t known each other long at all, but we communicated so well, fit so perfectly, that comments like that didn’t scare me. I knew he was going to leave late Sunday night, because he had work on Monday morning. But tomorrow we’d spend the day with his sister. And Sunday he was coming to meet my parents. This weekend was going to fly by so quickly that I had to make sure we could squeeze in as much alone time as possible.

While we were still on the road, it was a good time to talk because when we got to my house, I would be done talking. I wanted to bedoing.

“How’s your dad doing?”

“He told me to give you a hug for him and he hopes to see you again soon. Did you give any thought about coming back to South Dakota in a couple of weeks?”

“I spoke to my dad and the weekends are booked solid all month. But I could take off three days during the week. I know you still have to work, but we would at least have the nights together. And during the day, I can visit with your dad. How does that sound?” I asked, hoping he’d agree that it was better than nothing.

“I don’t care when you can come, as long as we’re together, we’ll make it work. And Dad would love that. He asks about you every time I call,” he chuckled.

“That’s sweet,” I said. “I told my parents that you’d be coming with me for brunch on Sunday, so hopefully they are as welcoming as your dad was to me.”

I didn’t see why they wouldn’t be. My parents were laid back for the most part. Mom had asked some questions about Colton, but I really hadn’t answered many of them. We hadn’t talked much about long term plans, so there was nothing concrete to tell my parents anyway.

“I’d like to pick up some flowers for your mother before we go.”
