“I’m guessing this is no longer a secret to her family either?” My father is quick.

“No, Cam became unwell and needed to be hospitalized yesterday. Lucia worked out that Cam’s sickness was due to her being pregnant.”

“How are Carmella and the baby now?” My mother looks worried.

I appreciate her caring nature.

“She and the baby are okay, Mom, they’re back home.”

“When did you find out? When did this happen? How did this happen? These are answers I need, son. I imagine the Giordanos haven’t taken this well.”

“I found out the night before Cam got shot and the girls were taken. Cam had it confirmed after her surgery. It happened at Leo’s wedding. No, they haven’t, Dante seems surprisingly more levelheaded than Nic, who turned up at my apartment this afternoon.”

My mother gasps in horror.

“It’s fine, Mother, Cam had phoned me to warn me. Leo was with me at the time.”

I hand my phone to my mother with the scan picture Cam sent through after she called. This one shows the baby more clearly than the first. You can see its little arms and legs; the head is obvious now too.

“Oh, Alessandro. It’s beautiful.” Mother tilts her head to get a better look.

“So, has Dante made contact?” Father questions.

“When I spoke to Cam, she said he wants me and you in Boston by tomorrow.”

“What does this mean, Rafael?” Mother turns the phone so he can see the scan.

He graces her with a small smile when he sees the picture. “I don’t know, to my knowledge this has never happened with two highborns. It’s usually a son who’s impregnated a common woman. Not that any families will have advertised this. This needs to be sorted quickly. Carmella will not be able to hide it for long.” Father looks to me. “You understand he can request your life, Alessandro?” Mother looks horrified. “Not that I will allow it.” He holds up his hand to my mother. “Of course, I would go to war for our son, Adelina. But I would need to speak to Giuseppe first. Alessandro has soiled their princess in their eyes. She would have been a strong point in them bonding with another city.”

The thought of Cam belonging to another leaves a sour taste in my mouth. But I get it, especially with the knowledge that Nic is gay. Dante won’t want to accept a bride from another city. No, his bride will need to be lowborn Italian to prevent the risk of Nic and Ant’s relationship becoming exposed.

“I will offer to marry her, Father. I will take her as my wife. There is no better match available for her.”

“Dante has been in talks with Chicago, son. No, Carmella is not yet promised, but Pietro was keen for a match between his son and Carmella.”

Interesting, I wonder if Cam is aware Dante is bargaining her off to Primo.

“Primo is just eighteen, that is not a suitable match. Mia would be a better offer.” I feel bad for throwing Cam’s little sister in the mix.

“Dante cannot marry off Mia before Carmella, son. It’s not how it’s done.”

“Well, I doubt Primo will want to marry her now that she carries my heir.” I stand and pace my father’s office. Pulling my fingers through my hair.

“Look, son, I will arrange the jet to take us to Boston tonight. That way we can discuss our options and be fresh for the meeting tomorrow.”

“Alessandro, go and shower before you and your father leave.” Mother gets up to run her palm over my cheek.

I bend and place a kiss to her forehead and head up to my suite.

Angelo:I still haven’t heard from you. Please let me know you are okay! x

I smile at her worrying.

Me:I’m fine angelo. The only blood spilled was when I held my knife to your brother’s throat for disrespecting you.

Angelo:I’m sorry this is causing you so much hassle, I’m not sorry for our baby though. Did you see the picture I sent? x

Me:I loved the picture. You have nothing to be sorry for. This will all be sorted tomorrow angelo.

Angelo:I hope so. x

Me:My father and I are flying into Boston tonight. We will be at yours in the morning. Now rest, I don’t want you or the baby stressed. x

Shucking off my clothes, I jump into the shower before our flight to Boston.
