“I thought we could order in? It’s been a long weekend. Is there anything you want in particular?” Al places his hands on my shoulders as he steps up behind me.

I jump at the contact, but he doesn’t remove his hands.

“Do you like Chinese?” I crane my neck to look back up at him.

“I do,” he grins down at me. “I’ll go order while you unpack. I hadn’t planned this, so if you need me to get you anything, let me know and I’ll get one of our soldiers to grab it for you.”

I nod in response.

Then, suddenly, I’m left in the middle of the large room, alone with stunning views over the park and the New York skyline in the distance.

I spend the next hour putting some of my things into the empty side of the closet. His side is very tidy, making me wonder if he has a housekeeper.

I make my way back down the corridor into the main living area. Al is unpacking dinner when I walk into the kitchen. I’ve changed into a pair of yellow- and white-checked pajama shorts with a little white cami. Al stops what he’s doing as he takes in my choice of outfit. His eyes darken as he stares at me. He’s taken off his suit jacket and is wearing his slacks with his white shirt rolled up at the sleeves, showcasing those impressive muscles.

He walks over to me and takes my hips in his hands, leaning me back against the granite counter top. He reaches up to touch my hair which is parted on both sides of my shoulders, running his hands down towards the end. Neither of us miss the way I flinch when my nipples pebble as the backs of his hands skim past them.

He tilts his head and raises his brow in question.

“They’re really sensitive and sore since being pregnant.” I dip my head as a pink blush covers my cheeks.

He doesn’t say anything, he just avoids my nipples. He then rubs the back of his palm over my stomach, the slight bump is no more than what bloating would be. But we both know what lays within me. He caresses my stomach, almost lost in his own touch. He then surprises me by placing his palm to my cheek.

“This could take some getting used to,angelo.I’ve never had a woman in my apartment before.”

I’m shocked by his admission.

“Never?”

He shakes his head.

Pulling away from me but grabbing my hand, he leads me over to the glass dining table. He’s laid out places, him at the head and me to his left. He pulls out my chair, and I take a seat.

“Such a gentleman,” I giggle.

“I appreciate we’ve done this all backwards, but I’d still like you to be happy with your decision to marry me.”

Decision, hmmm. It’s not like the other option was really even an option. I won’t say that, though, I’m grateful he’s trying so hard to make me feel comfortable.

He’s a very good host.

I’m still reeling from that snippet of information that he’s never had a woman here before. It’s nice to know he hasn’t been fucking his whores in the bed I’ll be sleeping in tonight.

We eat our dinner with both of us filling the silence with mundane talk.

“I know right now wouldn’t be practical, what with us needing to keep the pregnancy a secret. But NYU is a great college. Maybe you could look at design courses for once you’re settled with the baby.” Al gestures towards my nearly flat stomach.

“Are you serious? You’d let me go to college?” My voice comes out shocked.

“You’re not my prisoner, Cam, you are to be my wife. My mother has always worked within my father’s logistic company. If it is something you desire then I would like to make it happen.”

I just stare at him, trying to work out how this can be real.

“Women don’t work in our world.” I gesture around us with my fork.

“Absolutely, I wouldn’t have you working anywhere near our world, I want you kept safe. You working in design, or whatever it is you want to do, is doable. You’ll need to still have your guards with you at all times, but I won’t stop you from doing what you want. I don’t expect you to be home cooking and cleaning, Cam.”

“Okay, that’s probably for the best. I can’t actually cook.” I laugh as I sip my water.
