The only other person on this floor is Maximus, and he’s stopped by once. He and Al went into Al’s office to discuss tactics of some sort.

Al gets up and wanders over to answer the door as I put our breakfast on the table. Mine, some dry toast, and eggs for Al. He prefers bacon, but the first morning we tried that, I spent the day being sick from the lingering smell.

Al opens the door and walks toward me, his frame shielding our guest.

I gasp when I see who it is. His face is still not completely healed, the yellow tinge of old bruises still mars his lovely face.

I snap into action straightaway as I launch myself across the room and throw my arms around him.

He grunts as my body makes impact with his, “Steady there, sweets, broken ribs take some time to heal.” He unpeels himself from my embrace and takes a step back.

A firm arm encircles my waist and pulls me into his side.

“Yes, careful there, angelo. I might start to regret my decision to bring him here.” Al whispers harshly into my ear.

“Sorry, I… I can’t believe you’re here. How did you convince my father to let you leave Boston?” I blurt out my words, struggling to contain my excitement.

I’m practically bouncing with joy.

This man means so much to me, but it’s never been in a romantic way. He’s like a big brother to me.

“I didn’t, that would be Alessandro’s doing.” He nods toward the man still holding me possessively to his side.

Turning towards Al, I start to pull him toward our bedroom. Looking over my shoulder I address Sergio. “We won’t be a minute.” I give him a small smile and carry on pulling Al behind me.

Before I can close the door behind us, Al has me pushed up against our bedroom wall. His lips crush into mine as he grips my ass cheeks in his palms, lifting me up. He braces me against our bedroom wall, and my legs instinctively wrap around him. He takes all I have to give with my mouth. I take his cheeks in my hand as I place my head against his forehead.

“You’re mine, Carmella, I don’t fucking share,” he growls.

Placing my finger on his lips, I trace them. This is the most physical he’s been with me since I moved in.

“He’s one of my best friends, Al. There is, and never has been, anything romantic between us.” I place a light kiss to his lips. “I’m all yours.”

“Good. Well, I spoke to your father. Convinced him that it would be better for Sergio to work under me, seeing as your brother no longer trusts him. I, on the other hand do. I saw the way he stood up to me after you’d been shot, the way he looked out for you. Any man guarding you needs to be willing to lay his life down for you. That man out there definitely would. So, he’s here to stay. I’ve bought an apartment in this building to house both your guards.” He presses his forehead back against mine.

“Both, why do I need two? Bea doesn’t even have two guards.”

“After the fuck up with the Mexicans, all high-ranking officials’ fiancées and wives will have double protection.” His statement leaves no room for protest.

“Okay, well can we go and see Sergio now. I want to welcome him properly.”

A growl erupts from Al’s throat as he squeezes my butt harder.

I squirm under his palms. “Enough, caveman, I want to make him a coffee. All yours, remember.” I wiggle from his grip as he lowers me to the ground, and I lean up to kiss him once more before returning to Sergio.

Al’s gaze follows me like a shadow up the corridor.
