I grab my running gear as I rush to get dressed and throw my hair in a slicked back ponytail.

I hear the door open as I enter the hallway.

“Sergio, this isn’t a great time,” Al grunts.

I stroll into the entryway with an air of confidence I don’t feel. Of course, she’s stunning, with her short sleek blonde bob. She’s in skintight pants with a cream silk shirt and a beige coat that knots at her tiny waist.

She catches sight of me first and openly gawks as I walk past her in my running gear. No make-up, hair in a tight ponytail. We couldn’t look any more different; her stylish and sleek, and me, dressed down more than anyone ever normally sees me.

I’m going running, though, I’m not a gym bunny that dresses up to look at myself in the mirror. I plan to run; I’ll get sweaty. That’s the only way I will get rid of this knot in my stomach.

I make no effort to even grace her with my attention. Al, on the other hand, gets the full force of my snub.

“Cam, where are you going?” He snags my wrist as I pass him.

I turn to look at him and try to pull my hand away. “For a run,” I try my best to act as strong as I can, but Al’s not stupid, he won’t miss the tug of my wrist for him to let me go.

“Stay close to her, Sergio,” Al grunts as he releases me.

Sergio doesn’t say a word, he doesn’t need to. His anger is clear on his face. He waits until the elevator door closes before turning to me and catching my chin in his grip.

I gasp, Sergio never initiates contact, but he tilts my head to the side. “Did he hurt you?” His eyes lock on the dark blue mark on my neck, his eyes scan the rest of my exposed skin.

“He’s my husband, Sergio,” I huff as I pull my chin away.

“Not what I asked, sweets.” His whisper is deadly.

“Why? You going to go up against my husband for marking me?” He just glares at me. “No, Sergio, he’s been nothing but a gentleman. Other than bringing his whore into our home, as you just saw.”

“Merda,” he shakes his head.

“I’m meeting the girls by the little bridge opposite our entrance to the park. I just needed to get out of there. I’m okay.” I gently tap his cheek and smile at him.

The girls both soon arrive.

“I see he didn’t waste his time claiming you,” Bea smirks as she jogs alongside me, glancing at my mark.

“He got me pregnant before we were married, I’d say he already claimed me.” I grin as we jog in a line.

“So, what’s with the S.O.S text? Rocco was most unimpressed with me dragging him out of bed.” Nell turns to look at Rocco, jogging along behind us with Carlo and Sergio. “Dad didn’t bring our guards, so he said it’s Rocco’s responsibility to guard me.” Nell giggles.

“Right, erm… so I woke up this morning to find Alessandro’s whore in our flat.” Both the girls gasp. “She just turned up and decided to tell him she’s… pregnant.” The last word leaves a vile taste in my mouth.

He didn’t believe her, but what if she’s telling the truth? Is she further along than me, or did he fuck her more recently? I mean, we weren’t a couple until a week ago, so for all I know, they are still a thing. He didn’t seem pleased to see her, but was that because he wanted to keep her a secret? I know he paid to keep her in an apartment. For a whore, she was treated pretty damn well. Typical Al, even when he’s a bastard, he tries to be a gentleman.

“What? How? When? Did she say anything else?” Nell slows to my pace. I hadn’t realized, but I had slowed to a walk.

“I don’t know, he just kept saying he didn’t believe her and that she had betrayed him.” I shake my head. “I didn’t want to hang about, so I just texted you girls and got the hell out of there.”

“I could ask Leo? See how serious their relationship was… is?” She whispers the last word.

“No, please, Bea, I don’t want to know. This is such a fuck up as it is. Can you imagine the scandal if she’s pregnant? My family will be openly humiliated. It will cause so much trouble for Rafael if Alessandro has done this. I… I just need to speak to him.” I wipe a stray tear as it runs down my cheek.

I wasn’t much of a crier before this pregnancy. It’s definitely made me more emotional.

I hate it.

Nell wraps her arms around me. “We’re here for you, Cam, always. We’ll get you through this.”
