“We will give you a moment alone to decide. The monitor is connected to the central station so we can monitor your baby from outside the room.”

Dr. Won and his colleagues all leave the room.

Once they have left, I finally relax and allow myself to break down.

“Shh,angelo. It’s okay, you’re both okay,” Al soothes as he pulls me carefully into a side embrace.

He peppers me with kisses.

“I don’t want to wait for something to go wrong, I… I think we should go with the cesarean.”

Al nods. “I agree with you.”

Dr. Won, pops his head around the door. “You have four guests out here that are insisting they be allowed in.”

“That’s okay, doctor, they can come in. My wife and I have decided we would like to opt for the cesarean as soon as possible, if that’s okay?”

“Of course, I will book us into the OR now. I’ll get ready, and a nurse will be here to prepare you for theatre. Until then, I will send your guests in.”

As Dr. Won steps out of the room, Bea, Leo, Nell, and Maximus all enter.

“Cam, how are you? What did they say? Are you okay? Is the baby okay?” Bea is barely in the room before she bombards me with twenty questions as she rushes to the other side of my bed.

Leo catches her gently by her wrist and pulls her back so she’s flush against his chest.

“Careful, uccellino.Give her space,” Leonardo soothes as she places his hand in a protective stance across her small bump.

“They are going to perform a cesarean; they’re just prepping for us now.” I give her a sad smile.

“We get to meet him today?” Nell chimes.

Both Bea and I chuckle as all three of the men stare at her like they’ve never heard her speak. She’s so quiet around the guys but so different when she’s with me and Bea.

“Yes, Auntie Nell, you’ll get to meet him today,” I giggle.

Nell, out of the three of us, is the most maternal. If you had asked me two years ago who would have a baby first, I would have said Nell. She has been engaged a lot longer than either Bea or I, and yet, here we are. Both married with babies on the way. Nell loves to talk about when we live next to each other that she will be able to pop round for baby cuddles.

A knock sounds at the door.

“Come in,” Al calls.

The nurse steps into the room. She takes in the three massive men and blushes. I mean, they are all huge and attractive men in their own right, I can’t blame the poor girl.

“I… I’ve come to get you ready for surgery. Is that okay?” The poor nurse looks to me, then Al, then toward Leo and Max as if she’s not sure who to seek permission from.

“We’ll be in the waiting room,” Leo announces as he ushers Bea toward the door.

She darts over to give me a kiss as Leo practically has to drag her from the room.

Nell gives me a small smile and waves. “You’ll be fine, Cam. Mom had cesareans with three of us.”

Max nods at both of us as he guides Nell out of the room. It’s sweet how aware of her personal space he is, always hovering near her but never touching.

“Ready to meet our son?” Al whispers in my ear.

“So ready.” I smile up at him as his thumb wipes a stray tear from my cheek.
