“Just coming.”

I hurry over to the kitchen and answer the unknown caller. It must be Dr. Won. No one else’s numbers are withheld.

“Hello?”

“Carmella darling, how are you?”

I feel like I’m suffocating at the sound of his voice.

“What do you want?” I try my hardest to sound strong.

I put the phone on loud and point at the office so Mel will grab Sergio.

“I’m testing you. I’m sending you an address. You are not to tell Alessandro. If you do, the baby dies. You need to come alone. Do you understand me?”

Sergio is nodding at me. He has my face in his palms as he wipes my tears from my cheeks.

“I understand,” I gulp, trying to hold back the sob that’s threatening to escape.

The line goes dead, and my phone alerts me I have a message.

My knees crumble. Sergio is there to hold me up.

“Babe, go over to Max’s. Tell Alessandro he needs to come home now.” Mel nods and disappears out of the front door.

“Sweets, you need to calm down,” Sergio soothes as he lifts me onto the kitchen stool and wraps his arms around me.

I sob into his chest.

I fucking hate that Mexican asshole and these stupid pregnancy hormones. My moods are so unstable.

“I’m scared, Sergio,” I whisper, ashamed that I’m so weak. I don’t want anyone to witness my weakness.

“It’ll be okay, sweets. Alessandro and I wouldn’t let anything happen to you or Andrea.” He holds me close as he strokes my hair.
