Bea: I don’t think it’s insensitive. What time would you like us? xxx

Nell:I could come help you cook? xx

Me:Thank you girls. Shall we say four? That would give us time to get everything ready.

Nell:See you then. xx

I send a text to Al to let him know the plan.

“Thanks for the lovely dinner, Cam.” Enzo grins as he pulls me in for a side hug and rains kisses on my cheek, making me laugh.

“Enzo,” Leo scolds.

“Jeez, I gave her a kiss. It’s not like I fucking mounted her.” Enzo grumbles before he turns and grins at me with a wink.

“She’s not yours to touch. Keep your hands to yourself.” Leo shakes his head.

Enzo is just being Enzo. He’s always been overfamiliar with us girls.

Al slips his hands around my waist as he leans us back against the island and rests his chin on my head. Al knows what Enzo is like, he also knows he’s harmless. I think the real issue Leo has, is that he struggles with knowing Enzo has feelings for Bea.

The alarm system alerts us to a visitor in the lobby.

While us girls all go tense, the guys’ bickering goes silent, and they all go on full alert.

Al pulls out his phone to speak to the visitor.

“Come up,” he grunts. “Fuck,” he curses as he hangs up and heads for the door.

As he opens it, a woman I’ve never met before comes into the hall, followed by Al looking like he’s seen a ghost.

Al leans himself against the wall and crosses his arms defensively in front of his chest.

“Well, at least you have the decency to look ashamed,” the woman hisses, barely containing her anger.

Al just looks to the floor.

“Excuse me. Who the hell are you? And how dare you come into my home and speak to my husband like that,” I growl as I walk over to stand with Al.

The rest of the guys have joined us in the hallway, and Bea and Nell hover behind them with the babies.

“What do you want, Jackie?” Al asks in a deflated tone.

“I want protection from the crazy bastard who’s threatening me and my son,” she shouts.

She must be in her thirties. She has dark brown hair pulled into a messy bun and is wearing designer clothes, but her nails, make-up, and hair make her look slightly disheveled.

“You brought him into her life. You got her killed, and now he’s threatening me. You need to help me. This is all your fault,” she bristles.

“You’re being threated?” Leo asks as he steps toward the woman.

“Yes, because my stupid sister whored herself out and got involved with the fucking mob. Always an overachiever. Look where it got her, cast out like a used toy, pregnant, and now dead!” she screams at Al.

I take a step toward her. She’s probably got two inches on me in her heels, but I don’t care.

“Look, I’m sorry for your loss. But you don’t get to come in here and speak to him like that. You certainly don’t get to upset my son. If you have something to say, tell them calmly. You also might want to think about how you speak to this ‘fucking mob,’ since you’re here seeking their protection.”
