Chapter Eighteen

Stephanie laughed; Jason was so right. Why did she want to find flaws with this nearly perfect man?If she didn't have dreams herself, she'd dive headfirst in love with Jason Monroe. He was her past.So easily he could be her future.

They were stuck in the middle of a hopeless situation.Again.

She shifted so she could look at the man she loved.Yes, loved. And always would."You know what?I have a habit of over thinking things."

"Naw!That's so unlike you," Jason teased.

"Yeah, one of my biggest downfalls. It's always me and my plans."She tossed her head and shrugged."Problem is, they don't always work out so well."

"You think?"he asked, drumming his fingers on the steering wheel.

"Well, just wait.I’m about to better my past record."Steph admired his profile for a few more moments.

"What are you looking at?"Jason half-smiled at her.

Gorgeous."The best view in the world. You, of course."

"Flattery will get you everywhere, you know?"

She blew him a kiss."Here's a thought.Let’s enjoy being together and not worry about silly commitments, or the future, and see where that gets us."

"I'm good with that."

"Okay, we've got a deal."Steph continued to watch him drive, finding the way his hand rested on the steering wheel very sexy."What's the plan with Nicole?"

"Do we need a plan?"The corners of his mouth quirked.

"Sorry! We'll just wing it, is that better?"Steph looked out the side window but the passing scenery wasn’t as interesting as Jason.

Jason’s phone dinged a message.

"Heulyn texted.Nicole's staying home, so we can speak freely tonight.Once he has the drawings, he'll have a good idea how his wife will react."

"Of course!”Steph sighed.“I wanted to watch her face as she opened the journal and saw her sketches for the first time in forever. There's no hiding the love and joy the family shared."

Jason kept his gaze on the road but guessed, "You're feeling cheated right now?"

"Maybe a little.I did most of the dirty work, remember."She crossed her arms and bit back the smile.

Jason raised a brow."I would have joined you sooner, if it meant getting lucky."

She leaned over the console and dug her elbow into his side.

"What was that for?"Jason grinned."I was talking about the journal."

"Sure, you were."She crossed her arms, tapped her toe, but her lips twitched.

"Go ahead and laugh. It's good for mental health."

"You think there's something wrong with my mental health?"The falling in love part was definitely disconcerting, she thought.

"Course not!"Jason winked."Maybe mine though. All I can think of is how much I enjoy kissing you."

"Hang on to that thought.”Steph read the map on her phone.“We're almost there. My GPS says two blocks on the left."

"My memory agrees with you."Jason darted her a look."So, are we?"
