“Tempted, huh?”

I laughed and stepped back from the door. “That’s the word you pick up on there?”

“Of course it is,” Maverick said. “I’m a guy.”

“Just tell me one thing. Be honest. When you were just talking. Were you talking to your dick?”

“No,” Maverick said. “I was talking to your pillow.”

He shut his eyes and cringed.

“Oh,” I said. “You definitely should have lied to me just then.”

“I thought you were leaving,” Maverick growled.

“I’m gone,” I said. “Thanks for last night.”

Now I was the one cringing.

Another rule of a good one-night stand…

Do not thank the person for sex like they just got done bagging your groceries.

I hurried to finish getting dressed and walked to the apartment door.

It took a few seconds to open the door.

I kept hesitating.

What the fuck are you doing?

I reminded myself what was happening today.

I had to get home and get changed.

I had a big meeting in a few hours.

Today was the first day of my new job.

“I knew it,”Zoe said as she handed me a fresh cup of coffee. “You smell like cologne and sex.”

“Your point?” I asked.

“Was it good?” Eva asked from the couch.

“Probably a top ten for me,” I said. “Maybe top five. Maybe even the best.”

“Really?” Zoe asked. “So I shouldn’t be mad that you missed my show last night?”

“Definitely not,” I said. “I wasn’t going to show up anyway though. Sorry.”

“That’s cold,” Eva called out.

“I’m just trying to be honest,” I said.

“Honest?” Zoe asked with a smirk.

“Zoe, you’re an amazing musician,” I said. “And you’re going to be a huge rock star soon enough. I can’t wait to be backstage with you someday. I can’t wait to see the men who line up to get their shot at you.”
