“That’s a lie,” I said. “You demanded I show you some pictures. Remember? You were walking around my bedroom. Naked. Digging through my drawers.”

“That’s right,” Maverick said. “You have a lot of neon-colored panties, sweetie.”

“One for each guy in my phone,” I said.

“That I don’t like.”

“Jealous again, Mav?”

“You know you’re going to do amazing with this, right?”

“Of course I do. I’ve got to go now.”

“Me too. Practice time.”

“Good luck, Mav.”

“You too, sweetie.”

The call ended and I sat there and began to bite at my bottom lip.

I wasn’t sure what the hell just happened.

I didn’t mean to call Maverick.

I didn’t mean to have such a normal, casual and fun conversation with him.

Talking to him without it leading to hot sex just felt… weird.

But it felt good too.

I shut my laptop and packed up.

I had to get back to my apartment.

That one mistaken phone call to Maverick… just might end up screwing my entire life up.

“Which part do we start with?”Zoe asked.

“I like the one where she’s getting too involved with the sexy hockey guy,” Eva said.

“Can’t you kill him for me?” I asked. “I mean, in a book. Like write something so I can forget this?”

“You want me to kill the guy you’re screwing in a book?” Eva asked.

“I don’t know what I’m saying,” I said.

“You’re completely freaking out,” Zoe said.

“Big time!” I yelled. “I have an actual gig right now! To take pictures!”

“So, worry about that,” Zoe said. “Even though you don’t have to worry. You’re great at it.”

“It’s a forever thing,” I said. “Right? These pictures are…”

“Whoa,” Eva said. “Don’t like half of marriages end up not working out?”

“So?” I asked.
