They both started to laugh.

“Do you take me to be your horror writing wife?” Eva asked Zoe.

“Do you take me to be your kick ass music writing wife?” Zoe asked Eva.

“This is weird,” Eva said. “I can’t marry you, Zoe. I need a dick.”

“So do I,” Zoe said.

“We can’t share the same guy, right?” Eva asked.

“I quit,” I said. “You two are terrible friends.”

I walked toward my bedroom.

Zoe and Eva chased me down.

I tried to slam the door on them but they were already inside my bedroom.

The two of them tackled me to my bed.

“You’re freaking out over nothing,” Eva said.

“She’s right,” Zoe said.

All three of us were on our backs, staring at the ceiling.

“Is there anything else on your mind right now?” Zoe whispered.

I knew where she wanted this conversation to go.

I had to save myself.

Quick.

“I’ve never had a job like this before,” I said. “This is big for me. I’ve always wanted to take pictures. You know what my mother said…”

“We know,” Eva said as she patted my hand. “We know what she said before-”

“So it means a lot,” I said. “And I don’t want to have to deal with what I do now forever.”

“Your father,” Zoe said.

“Exactly,” I said. “It’s like he wants everything to work against me, you know? Like he has to control it all. I get why, but…”

“That’s no way to live though,” Zoe said.

“Which is why this means so much to me.”

“And you’re going to do amazing,” Eva said. “Everything you do is amazing.”

“Including the super-hot goalie,” Zoe whispered.

I shut my eyes and groaned.

They started to laugh.

I wasn’t in the mood to laugh.
