“It just happened today.”

“Were you going to tell me?”

“Of course!”

She rolls her eyes. “So, no. You weren’t.”

“I would have, eventually, when I figured out how to say it. When I figured out what was even happening.”

“Well, sure, it would be pretty awkward to just start dating Holden and not give me any warning.” She tilts her head to the side. “But maybe you would have done that. I feel like I don’t know anymore.”

“I didn’t want to hurt you.”

“You did, though. And I don’t think you tried very hard not to.” She turns toward the door. “I would have been okay with it, for the record. It would have taken some time to get used to it, but I tried to be open and accepting. But instead of owning up to it, you do this behind my back.” Her shoulders wobble for a moment and I know she’s trying not to cry. “I’ve been trying, Saine, and it doesn’t feel like you have.”

I still don’t move. I can’t choose. I can’t pick one. I want them both. I need them both.

She leaves, and takes any hope of things being okay on the cutting room floor.

Nope. and friends
