My private elevator beeps before my solution is fully formed, and we all stand and draw our weapons. There aren’t too many people that have the code or access to the elevator, and absolutely nobody uses it without my knowledge.

When the door opens, and we see who it is, we all relax and put away our weapons. It’s my inside man. He has been a lifesaver for me because once upon a time, I got him out of jail and kept him out. But if he’s here, then something is terribly wrong.

“Leo.” You can hear the edge in my voice, and I would bet money you can see it on my face.

“We got a problem,” Leo responds, and my gut twists into knots.

“They fucking took her!” I roar as I throw a glass against the wall, and it shatters into thousands of pieces like my fucking heart.

“We’ll get her back, G. We won’t fucking stop until we do,” Mario says as he tries to calm me down.

But there isn’t anything that can calm me down. Mancini’s men took Egypt right from under my fucking nose. We don’t know how they got her, but Leo saw her being forced into one of Mancini’s clubs. I know Egypt is terrified out of her mind, and the last thing she heard me say was she wasn’t important to me. No, I didn’t say those specific words, but I hurt her. I know her feelings were hurt, but now she could be in physical pain. And both are because of me.

I thought I would have time to make sure she wasn’t angry at me anymore. I know what I said was bullshit, but it had to be said. Egypt is getting too close to me, and I couldn’t have that. I care about her too much. I wanted to keep her out of danger by keeping her at arm’s length.

However, none of that matters now because they took her anyway. I put her in danger, and danger came knocking.

“We have to notify Joey’s parents,” I say when I finally get myself somewhat together.

They found his body sitting in his car in an alley outside of Egypt’s house. We still don’t know where Carlo is. We’re hopeful, but we know it’s only a matter of time until we find his body as well, or worse, we won’t find him at all.

“Leo, you took a chance coming here,” Nicky says, his thick brows bunched in the middle. I know what he’s thinking. If we send Leo back in, there’s a chance he will be made.

We’ve already lost Joey, and Carlo is missing. I’m not in the business of losing my men, and even though he’s been working his way up the Mancini organization, Leo is one of my guys.

Leo instantly shakes his head, “They think I’m just on a reconnaissance mission. I convinced them that nobody would recognize me since I’m not from around here. It would be easy for me to slip in and get a layout of the place.”

Leo’s plan is smart. We’ve kept our contact to a minimum and only communicate through messages left in secure locations. We don’t even use burner phones. I don’t like electronic shit when it comes to keeping my people safe.

“Alright. I’ll trust your judgment this time. Go back and tell them what you need to, but you make sure to keep an eye on Egypt. We will be there guns blazing when those motherfuckers least expect it, so stay ready.” I want Leo to understand that I’m counting on him to keep my woman safe.

“I got you, G. I’ll protect her with my life.” Leo nods, and there’s nothing left to be said, so he leaves the same way he came.

“This is a serious clusterfuck.” Mario runs his hands down his face, and I can tell he’s frustrated that he can’t do more.

My cousin is close to Egypt in a way that I’m not. They have a sibling-type bond because they both had to put up with my shit together. They had to work beside each other to help my legal and illegal companies run smoothly.

“It’s important to plan this out. We can’t go in guns blazing and risk Egypt getting hurt. She’s been through enough.”

“We’ll do whatever needs to be done, cousin. We’ll get her back,” Nicky promises, and I know he means it.

I can always count on my family. They have always been my backbone and my courage. They are the ones that told me I could accomplish anything in this world. How else would a Mafia prince wind up being a champion MMA fighter?

So, I know that my cousins will help me fight one of the most important battles in my adult life. And I’m grateful to have them.

“Thank you,” I look at both my cousins in their eyes. “You know I would never be able to accomplish this shit without you.”

“Yeah, yeah… fuck all this mushy shit. What’s the plan? Cause I know you have one.” Nicky breaks our emotional moment, and I’m glad he did. No matter how close we are, the last thing I want to do is cry in front of these two bastards.

Even though it would all be in jest, they would never let me live it down. So, I do what I do best. I make a plan. I have always been meticulous with my planning, and this time I have to be particularly careful with every detail.

I can’t let Egypt down. Hell, I can’t let myself down. If something happens to her, I would never be able to live with myself. I would never be able to live without her.

I know what I have to do in my heart, and the thought makes me cringe. And it’s a huge chance, but I’ll do anything.

“Egypt quit. She left in a huff. Make sure to revoke all of her access to everything. And make sure that everyone knows that Daniel is now my first assistant.”
