“Where’s my daddy? They beat my daddy so bad…” Egypt is almost hysterical, but I do my best to calm her down.

I take her in my arms and carry her bridal style out of the club.

“After you get rid of the bodies, burn this motherfucker down. Put Mancini in my special place. I have plans for him,” I give my orders, but I never break stride as I get my girl far away from this shithole.

“Please. No more. Just kill me…” Mancini begs from his place on the floor. I have had good ole Salvador in my warehouse for forty-eight hours.

I have tortured and beat him until his face is unrecognizable, but it’s still hasn’t satisfied the savage bloodlust inside of me. He had a gun pointed at the woman who owns my heart and soul. Yeah, I was an idiot and denied her.

However, it’s hard to deny the fear of the real possibility of losing the person you love forever. I couldn’t deny my attempts to keep her at arm’s length were stupid, even if I had my reasons.

Mancini’s groaning brings me back to the present. I continue raining punches and kicks to his head. His entire body is covered in bruises and cuts. But none of that will matter because they will never find Salvador Mancini’s body.

When my knuckles are bloody and swollen and Mancini’s breathing is almost nonexistent, I stop. I hold out my hand, and Mario places my Glock in my palm.

“You wanted me to kill you motherfucker, so your wish is my motherfucking command.” I point the gun right between his eyes and pull the trigger without an ounce of remorse.

There won’t be any blowback from killing Mancini and his crew because they were outsiders infringing on my territory. They got what they fucking deserved.

I leave the building knowing that my men will make sure Salvador is a distant memory that people will think they imagined. It will be like he never existed. I go to my apartment at the Four Seasons to clean myself up, so I can head to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where Buddy and Egypt are receiving the best care my money can buy.

I will always be grateful to Buddy for saving my life and introducing me to Egypt. And I hope that he can forgive me for all of the mistakes I’ve made. And especially for not protecting him or Egypt like I promised two years ago.

When I exit my apartment building, Nicky is waiting at the car. I shake my head at my stubborn cousin. I told him to take the next few days off. It has been an exhausting week, and we all need a vacation. Unfortunately, as the boss, I can’t take a vacation. But I’m not such a hard-ass that I wouldn’t let my men get a break.

“I told you to stay your ass at home,” I grumble, and the big asshole just chuckles.

“Come on, cousin. You know I wouldn’t leave you at a time like this. Once things calm down, I promise to go on vacation.”

I roll my eyes because we both know Nicky is full of shit. He won’t go on vacation unless I do. And we both know I have too much shit to do to take any breaks.

When we finally make it to the hospital, I feel a type of nervousness that I’ve never felt in my life. But, I know Egypt is fine because I wouldn’t leave until the doctor said she would be okay, and he just wanted to keep her for observation. And although she was obviously traumatized, she let me know that Carly was the person feeding Mancini information and how she showed up at the club to gloat. Egypt also told me how Carly wanted Mancini to kill her.

Carly, the woman who was supposed to be behind bars, was out and helping to terrorize Egypt. As soon as Egypt mentioned Carly’s involvement, I tracked her down. I knew somebody was telling Mancini my business, but I was blinded by pussy and didn’t think it could’ve been Carly.

I underestimated her need to be next to power and her willingness to do anything to get what she wanted. I thought Carly was dumb, but she played me from the start. I have to give it to her though she played her part right until the bitter end.

“Giovanni? Wha-what are you doing here?” Carly stammers over her words and looks at me with wide tearful eyes.

Her fear is genuine because she didn’t expect me to be in her hotel room. Carly probably never expected to see me again. She thought that she would be protected by her boyfriend. Little does she know Mancini couldn’t protect himself, so he sure as hell can’t protect her.

“I should’ve known…” I shake my head as I take a good look at the snake that was hiding in my garden for so long.

“Known what? That you lost a good thing chasing behind that black bitch.” The real Carly slips out, and her jealousy drowns out her fear.

“I should’ve known that I couldn’t let a crazy bitch like you live. Jail is too good for you.”

“Everyone knows I’m out. Those trumped up charges will never stick, and I’ll be able to live my life.”

The arrogance in her tone shows just how entitled she is. The charges against the Lambert’s are legitimate. They did everything they were accused of. I just helped the evidence against them get into the right hands.

“Everyone knows that the charges are an embarrassment to your family, and you will do anything not to go to jail. Including going on the run.”

Carly’s brows scrunch in confusion, and she narrows her eyes at me. She hasn’t connected the dots yet. There’s a reason I’m here, and it isn’t for a social visit.

“There’s no reason for me to go on the run.” She says slowly, and then she finally sees it.
