“You know I have a crush on you, right?” His face is still full of humor, but I suspect it’s a way to protect himself.

I reach my hand out and squeeze his bicep. “Matt, I know. And I’m flattered, but…”

He shakes his head, smile still in place. “But you don’t date teammates.”

Nodding, I add, “And you’re too young. But your friendship means the world to me.”

He studies me. “Alright. Message received. I’ll let my harmless crush on you go. But if you change your mind, you know where to find me. I’ll also help you out tonight. I don’t have anything better to do.”

I drop my hand and look around the room, hoping like hell there are some young, single ladies who might find themselves in need of a dance partner.

“There’s a whole gaggle of girls your age.” I point to a table in the back, and he snorts. “I think they’re cousins. I’m sure you could move on with one of them.”

“Maybe. But I’m not worried about it. Should we have a code word or a secret signal?” He’s being serious right now, and I let out a full-hearted laugh.

“We will be fine.”

We chat some more before the DJ, as expected, calls for the wedding party to join in on the dance floor. Matt spins me toward the dance floor and I can’t help up burst out laughing. I feel Wade’s stare but he looks away from me just as I find his eyes, and he reaches out to Billie. Of course she’s a form of pure elegance as she stands, taking his hand.

Matt puts his arm around my waist, then glides his hand south as we start dancing.

“Excuse me. Adjust your hand, good sir.”

He chuckles as he moves his hand off my ass. “My bad.”

I smile into his shoulder. We dance in silence for half the song before Matt catches me off guard.

“I don’t know how I missed it,” he says.

I turn my head slightly. We aren’t dancing close to each other, but in a comfortable, friendly way. So while to the untrained eye we may look cozy, I don’t think we’re giving off love vibes.

“I should have known it was Wade. I made my crush for you known at Dex’s party, and it made him prickly. I didn’t think much about it, but seeing as he can’t keep his eyes off you…” He pulls me closer to him.

“Matt,” I warn.

“Trust me,” he whispers in my ear. “I’m helping.”

Sigh.

I decide to go with it. Though, Wade is probably just worried. Matt is clearly a cocky player, and as the designated sister of the group, he’s most likely being protective.

The song ends and I make a beeline for the head table, needing some water. I lost my cocktail on the way to the dance floor.

From that point, I mingle and sip more fruity drinks from the bar until the DJ announces its time for the bouquet toss.

Out of nowhere, Ruby and Gia snag my hand and prance out onto the dance floor with all the other single ladies and the classic “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” song blasts through the PA system.

Morgan dances around and then turns her back before tossing the flowers behind her. I’m standing there, laughing at how Ruby and Gia are play fighting over who’s going to grab it, when it pretty much falls right into my arms.

Laughing, I do a little twirl and everyone claps. Gia and Ruby are cracking up as we walk off the floor while the DJ brings over a chair for Morgan to sit on for the removal of the garter.

The guys fill the floor, and there seems to be way more of them than single ladies tonight. And when Morgan starts giggling and her face flushes pink, the hooting and hollering goes wild when Dex spends a few seconds too long under her skirt.

Finally, Dex flings the purple garter, and to my utter horror, Wade reaches up and plucks it from the air.

Applause and laughter erupt when Link pushes Wade and tries to grab it. Ruby elbows me. “Know what that means, right?”

I eye her. Damn it, I forgot to talk to her about whatever it is she’s up to.
