Chapter 16

Addie

Eli was right. I was the boss or soon to be boss, so I needed to act like it. I knew what I needed to do, I just needed to figure out my plan. Four men were responsible for raping Lucian’s daughter, so four men needed to pay. But I couldn’t kill all four men. The family would view that as excessive and I’ve already killed two men attached to the family, so I needed to slow down. But I would kill one of them though and send a message to the rest of the men in the family.

I told Nate my plan and he was quiet at first. He sat with it for a minute, and I gave him time to complete in silence so he could think it through.

“It’s a sound plan and it’s something we do ourselves,” Nate said after a long silence, nodding.

“You think we can handle it?” I arched an eyebrow.

After a few minutes of silence Nate nodded. “Yeah. Me, you, Big Bob, and Joe.”

“You think they’ll do it?”

“You’re the boss, of course they will.” He shrugged. “Do you need me to help you?”

I shook my head. “I got it covered. I know where he’s going to be, you’ve made sure he’s alone, and I know what I’m going to do.”

“Okay.” He took a deep breath. “I guess we’re doing this.”

I patted him on the back. “I’ll see you tomorrow night.”

He nodded. “Get some sleep, Boss.”

Everyone had their job, and it was time for me to do mine. I had my father call a meeting for tomorrow night so I could address the family. Nate drove me to one of our warehouses. I had already killed two people in it, so it seemed like a good place.

“You, okay?” Nate opened my car door, his eyes filled with concern.

“I’ll call you when it’s done.” I slid from the car and slammed it shut before he could say anything else. I was opening the door before he finally drove off. After two deep breaths I entered the building. Lucian Sky waited by the back office.

“We got him in there.” Lucian walked toward me and stopped, meeting me halfway. “He’s very upset and threatened to have me killed if I didn’t let him go.”

“Is he tied up?” I arched an eyebrow.

Lucian nodded. “Just like you asked.” He pointed to a man standing by the back door. “And that is our doctor. Just like you asked, although I don’t know why you asked for him.”

“You’ll see.” I took another deep breath.

“I could do it,” said Lucian. “I would love to do it.”

“You can’t do to him what I’m thinking in my head. It has to be me. If you kill one of the family, it’ll anger everyone, even if I gave you permission. But you can watch.” I smirked. “Don’t worry. I got this.”

He shrugged. “Okay.” He glanced back at his men guarding the back door. “Oh. The other thing you asked for is also in the room.”

“Thanks.” I took off my coat, preparing to do what I had planned.

As much as I tried to stop it, my lips formed the biggest grin my face had ever known. I wouldn’t say I liked killing people. I wouldn’t kill people if I didn’t have to. But there was something about it that intrigued me. The act of killing a person. Feeling their bones break. Feeling the flesh tear as you cut into them. There was something that just felt… satisfying.

I opened the door. “Hey, Reggie. You have time to talk?” I closed the door behind me as I laid my suit coat on the corner chair. They had tied him to a table just like I had asked. Each limb secured to a table leg with handcuffs.

His mouth opened wide along with his eyes when he saw me walk in. For the first time since I’d known him, fear spread over his face as his body began to shake.

His surprised face made me laugh. “I take it you weren’t expecting me?”

“Can’t say that I was, Addie.” He gulped so loudly that the sound filled the room.

He tried to act cool and calm, but he was shaking. The handcuffs rattled against the table. Maybe he was just cold, but I doubted it.
