“I don’t understand.”

A heavy sigh left me. “That’s what made me laugh. My grandmother was… family. But I have another family. My family.” I finally looked up to see Luca’s brow pinched in confusion. He was so cute I almost laughed again. “You, Luca. The moment I married you we became a family. My family. Your family. Our own family.”

His head flew back so hard I’m amazed he was able to stay balanced on the balls of his feet. He stared at me in bewilderment, frozen. I could tell his mind had been blown. Luca thought when he lost his parents he lost his family forever. He forgot how a family started, with two people and grew with children.

He was still staring at me, speechless, almost pained. “Luca? Are you ok?”

“I…”

My nerves began to tingle. Things were moving behind his eyes that showed all sorts of emotions. Some of them caused him to flinch and shift uncomfortably. “It’s ok. Please say something?”

“I’m trying,” he gasped at last. “I guess I just never realized you thought about us that way. Is that what you’ve been thinking this whole time?”

I gave a small shrug, suddenly feeling self-conscience. “For me that is always how I saw it. But it took me some time for me to accept it. To want it after we got married.” I placed my hands over his and looked into his eyes. “You are my husband, my family. Did you never think of us as being a family?”

“No, it’s not that. I just…” He stood raking his hands into his hair and spoke to the ceiling. “Becka, when I first… claimed you as mine, I never thought you could even come to have feelings for me, let alone want to consider us a family. I thought you would hate me and despise me forever after what happened. For who I am.”

I stood, cupping his jaw and forcing him to look down at me. “Luca I will never be able to come to terms with what you do, I will always hate it. I told you that once before. But in the case of you, this man looking at me right now.” I took a deep breath. “I don’t hate you or resent you. I don’t think I ever could.” I ducked my head unable to hold his gaze. “What kind of person does that make me?”

Strong hands took my face making me look up. Luca's eyes turned fierce. “It makes you the kind of person I never thought could exist. To be able to see past everything and find me, buried under years of anger and loneliness. It makes you the one thing in this life I am truly thankful for.”

“Luca, I’m scared,” I gripped his shoulders, never wanting to let go.

“I’ll protect you. I will try and keep you as far away from everything I do as possible.” Strong arms curled around my waist, pressing me in tight.

“That’s not what I’m talking about.”

“Then what are you scared of?”

“That something will happen to you. That one day you won’t come home and I will be alone.” My heart twisted with the thought. “Loosing my grandmother was hard enough, it nearly crushed me. I don’t even know what I would do if…” I couldn’t finish. A full body shiver made me quiver in his arms.

Luca leaned down to brush his lips against mine, making my eyelids flutter. “I can’t make promises. But I will tell you this. Coming home to you has been the only time I’ve felt happy in many years. No matter what it takes, I will always do everything in my power to come back to you.”

I couldn’t breathe. It was on the tip of my tongue, those three little words, but I was still scared. To tell someone I love them with so much possibly of loosing them had me terrified.

But what if I never say it and I lose him?

“Luca, I…”

Luca’s hands pressed in on my lower back, his body heat soaking through my thin, black dress. His lips pressed a little harder and nipped at my bottom lip. My mind turned to mush and all I could think about was his arousal pressing into my stomach.

“Yes?” He nipped at my neck with his lips as his fingers tightened on my hips, making me gasp.

Warmth built in my belly, a tingling started crawling up my thighs and between my legs. “I need you.”

My mouth parted for him and he took it with aching tenderness. Reaching up to run my hands into his dark hair I pressed closer, wanting to feel every inch of his hard body against me.

His kiss was gentle and slow, working his tongue to devour me with burning passion. Luca cupped my ass in both hands and kneaded my firm cheeks, making me moan with need.

The hiss of my zipper filled the air amongst the needy noises as Luca slowly undid my dress. He brushed the black fabric off my shoulders, his mouth following in its wake, dragging hot lips down my body. I was already wet and ready for him.

When his mouth reached my breasts he kissed the exposed flesh peeking out of my bra. Removing the lacy undergarment Luca didn’t hesitate to take a pebbled nipple into his mouth, sucking hard. I hissed at the pleasure-pain while his hands pressed on my back so I couldn’t squirm away from the sting. He moved to the other side and did the same, driving my desire from needy to desperate. Desperate to have his glorious length filling me.

“Luca, please.”

He groaned loudly. I knew he liked it when I begged. And sure enough he flew up to take my mouth again in a hungry kiss. I moaned into his mouth, tearing at his clothes. Removing his coat, Luca was already half way done with the buttons of his shirt before I could get there. Tossing his shirt to the floor he picked me up, spun us around and backed up until his knees hit the bed. We fell to the mattress, me landing on top.

I straddled his strong thighs, using my hands to feel the rest of his body while he kissed the hell out of me. His muscles strung tight with anticipation. Big hands moved down my back until he cupped my butt with one hand and fisted my panties in the other. Yes. With one hard yank he ripped them from my body.
