Enzo freezes in his steps when he opens the door and rests his eyes on me. "You....you look gorgeous."

"Thank you."

"Come on, they are waiting."

I lock my hand in his as he escorts me out of my room and down the staircase.

"Anything particular I should know about the guests?"

"Just that they don't take any detail for granted so think twice before you speak."

I do not respond as I let him lead me to the foyer area. Two formally dressed men and a woman are waiting for us as we exit the staircase. They are seated on the white, leather, five-seater L-couch with their heads turned to face us. They all seem amazed to see us and that is definitely what Enzo was looking forward to when he bought the dress.

"You look magnificent," says one of the men. I give him my hand and he doesn't hesitate to kiss it on the back. They are all standing with their eyes on me. Unlike the casino, I don't feel they are looking at me lustfully. I know for a fact they are looking at me in admiration.

"Darling, meet Paul, Casey, and Phoebe. They will be joining us for lunch today. Gentlemen, and lady, this is Everleigh," Enzo introduces us after the greetings.

"It's a pleasure to meet you. Welcome and please, feel at home," I say.

"Thank you," they say in unison as they sit.

"Honestly speaking, we didn't expect to be met by a stunning beauty like you. Mr. Enzo here sure does know how to spot a precious gem in a land filled with mere rocks.

"I am flattered, Mr. Casey," says Enzo. "I have said this, and I will say it again, I take pride letting everyone know she is mine despite her background."

"The world could use more men who are a lot more like you," says Phoebe.

That would be no longer simply a world but hell.

I am trying to maintain my smile hearing all the good things being said about Enzo and it is working except I don't know how much longer I can fake it.

"That is so kind of you. Thank you."

Paul takes out a laptop from the briefcase sitting on his right and starts operating.

"Now Everleigh…is it okay if I call you Everleigh?" Paul asks.

"Of course."

"Thank you. I needed to confirm you are the same girl from six months ago because the difference is mind blowing. I have, however confirmed it and I am impressed. Both by your determination and willingness to become a better person. And Mr. Enzo, the time, money, energy, and effort you have put in on this girl is beyond imagination. It is people like you who make us believe in the beauty of our dreams."

"Put it this way, Paul. If you know that whatever you are doing is for a good cause, if you are not driven by greed or selfishness and if your sole purpose is to whole heartedly help someone and change their lives for the better, then the money and everything else won't seem too big of a deal," Enzo says.

No wonder this bastard is so successful as a mafia boss. His lying, attention-grabbing, and convincing skills are on point. It will be his word against mine if I dare to say the truth. Taking that chance might lead to my death. I was not ready to die six months ago and I sure as hell am not ready to die now.

"What do you have to say about that, Everleigh?" asks Casey.

Enzo rests his hand on mine and gently rubs the back of my left palm. "I had a choice. To leave or stay with him. He was okay if I decided to leave and start life over fresh where no one knew me or my story. He was willing to give me money to supply for all my needs without expecting anything in return until I found a stable source of income. Call me loyal but there was no way I was going to leave the only man in the world who cared and still cares about me. A man who knew my story and was willing to be with me despite my flaws. There aren't many like him out there and letting this one go was the most stupid thing I could have done. I chose to be wise."

Enzo is smiling, looking at me. I might have learnt a thing or two from him about lying after all.

"Thank you, baby. That means so much to me," he says and kisses my hand.

"I hate to ruin the moment, but have you ever thought of what would happen if he brought another woman? I mean, he still has the capability of doing for many others what he did for you."

"If it ever comes to that, Casey, then I'll know he did it for a good cause. If need be, I will step aside because I know I will be in a position to take care of myself and not go back where I once was."

"You said it yourself, I spotted a precious gem in a land filled with mere rocks. This one gem serves me just right. I don't need more," says Enzo.
