CHAPTERFOURTEEN

Outlaw

I held her the other night and it felt right. I’m not sure how to feel about that. I fuck women, not feel. When she caught me with a woman in my room, I felt like such an asshole. That’s why I took her to the concert.

Then when she wrapped her small hands around my waist, I think something broke inside me. I can only think about her.

I just don’t know how to tell her. Snoopy explained what old lady meant and I saw the hurt in her eyes. I’m a fuckup. I’m going to fuck this up. I know I am. That’s what hurts.

It’s been a month since Everleigh started at her job. She seems to love it, and her customers love her. I’m happy for her, she’s living her life, the one she wants. That’s all I could ask, right?

Why do I feel in such a rut.

I told her I don’t do relationships, but something happened the night of the concert. My heart turned from black to red and started beating again.

She’s the first thing I think about when I wake up and the last thing on my mind when I go to sleep. It’s only her.

I saw her looking at apartments the other day with Knuckles and I nearly lost my shit. That’s why I finally took the leap and bought my own house. Thanks to Jason taking us on as clients, we have a steady income. I haven’t shown her yet, I’ve been waiting to close on it.

I’m waiting for her to get off and my knee is bouncing with anticipation.

I watch her come out of the restaurant as she waves to everyone inside. Her whole face lights up when she smiles. She turns that smile on me as she climbs into my truck. God, she is so fucking beautiful, and she’s mine.

She slides over and throws her arms around me and all I want to do is hold on for dear life.

“You are in a super good mood today. What’s up?” I ask as she settles in, fastening her seat belt.

“I got my first paycheck today,” she smiles at me.

“Congratulations, Everleigh. I’m so happy for you.”

“Thank you.” She leans over and rests her head on my shoulder. I love when she does that. I love everything she does.

I pull up to the clubhouse so she can change before I show her the house I bought. She gets out and nervously walks to the clubhouse. Why is she nervous?

There are a few of my men lounging around, who wave at her as she enters. She pauses at the staircase and takes a deep breath. This has me worried.

“I wanted to do something for you to thank you for saving me from Enzo. I didn’t have the money until now. I got this for you,” she turns and hands me a box. “I didn’t know what else to get you. Not everything in the store screams ‘thanks for rescuing me,” she chuckles nervously.

“I know it’s not much. I hope you like it,” she blurts out quickly and runs upstairs. I glance to see everyone watching the exchange. Some are glaring at me as if I did something wrong.

The box is black velvet and when I open it, my road name is engraved in gold lettering. Each letter is about three inches high and the whole thing is about twelve inches. Each letter is welded together. The W in my name is shaped like a king’s crown. I’m speechless. It’s the most thoughtful gift anyone has given me.

“You might want to show her how much it means to you,” Jimmy pats my shoulder.

“You can’t let her go,” Hawk agrees.

“We all like her and know why you did what you did. You knew she was yours the minute you saw her,” Knuckles chimes in.

“We all know why you chose never to settle down, but fuck man, she’s the one,” Gunner adds.

I don’t know what to say.

“Just fucking go up there,” Snoopy points to the stairs. I take them three at a time, as the men cheer downstairs.

I stop at my room, the one she’s been using and knock. She opens the door cautiously, a concerned look on her face.

“First of all, don’t ever run from me again,” I scold her. “Second, this is amazing.”
