“What the hell do you mean I won’t die?” he shouted, body folding over as he groaned.

“The medicine is this new anti-fungus thing. The regular dose of it causes some intestinal distress. I gave you sixteen of them. So…I’m sure the cramping and such is intense. But you won’t die. I’d just, I don’t know, hydrate really well.”

Bloodworm lunged for her, fingers going for her neck.

“Dismor,” I ordered quickly. My right-hand warrior, my sister-in-arms, launched forward, putting herself between Gwen and Bloodworm. She had her spear against his neck before he could so much as splutter an Earth expletive.

“The new contract has been signed,” I announced, using my most kingly tone. “The games have ended. I will be going home now, Bloodworm. Do not, under any circumstances, bother me or my planet again.”

Snagging Gwen around the waist, I walked out of the office. Magl’on moved quickly, positioning himself in front of me. Dismor appeared shortly after, bringing up the rear.

“We’ve attached the imperial vessel to this ship, my king. We will take it down to the surface where our guard crafts are and prepare to return to Orenda.” Dismor seemed her usual self, though I could tell she was relieved to have me in her sights again.

“Perfect, Dismor. I find that I am in need of a long rest.”

“We can attach our ships to yours and piggyback home, my liege,” Magl’on grunted from ahead, eyes scanning the hall as we moved.

“Yes, Magl’on. That will do.”

I hugged Gwen to my side.

“So, are you taking me with you?” she questioned tentatively. “I mean, now that everything’s said and done, I wouldn’t blame you if you reneged on that plan.”

I laughed, scooping her up into my arms and making her gasp.

“You are never leaving me, Gwen Mitchell. You will stay with me forever. We will argue. We will fight. And we will love. Our mating will be the strongest Orenda has ever seen.”

She smiled, her beautiful plump lips curving. “And we’ll work together to make sure your planet is whole again, very soon.”

I kissed her, falling into her mouth like she was the very lifeblood beating through my two hearts.

Because she was.
