“That’s not it.” Kristen bit her lip, flashing back to those few minutes on the patio outside. “And there was definitely chemistry. I, um, felt it. He gave me an excuse, but it seemed more like he blew me off.”

“What was the excuse?”

“He doesn’t take advantage of girls who’ve been drinking.”

“Hmm.” Tori leaned forward to look at her purple-painted toenails. “I guess I could see that. I mean, it’d make him a damn golden boy in a world full of douchebags, but I suppose it’s plausible. I love this color. Don’t you love this color?”

“It’s great.”

“I didn’t even think you drank that much.”

“I didn’t. I mean, once he turned me down, I threw a couple more back, but when we were making out, I was only a little buzzed.”

“That’s weird.” Tori shook her head. “Forget him. We have all week to find you another guy, if you’re still up for it.”

“Absolutely.”

“So where are we going after this?”

“Actually”—Kristen checked her phone to get the time—“I have to be at my brother’s place for a barbecue dinner in a couple of hours. Do you want to come?”

“Family thing?”

“Nah, my parents are in Vancouver until Monday. Just some friends coming over, I think. I said I’d go by. You should come.”

“Hmm. I think I’m going to pass. I haven’t been to a yoga class in a week, and after last night, I need it.”

Kristen shot her a sideways look. “Where did you go last night anyway?”

“I ran out to grab more chips and dip with one of the guys and forgot my purse. You must’ve left right before I got back.”

“I must’ve. I was cranky and a little drunk, and I totally assumed you just bailed on the party.”

“I’d never do that to you.”

“Yes, my sober and logical brain this morning knew that quite well.”

“Well, I’m glad that this Blake guy was nice enough to take you under his wing until you sobered up.”

“Like a pathetic baby bird,” Kristen muttered.

“Tweet tweet.” Tori laughed and took another drink from her water bottle.

The memory of the goodbye kiss hit her, and she bit back a sigh. The chemistry between them had been incredible.

Having Blake be her first would’ve been pretty amazing. Especially if he did other sensual things as well as he kissed. But like she’d told him before leaving, it was a good thing it hadn’t worked out.

She didn’t really need the best sex ever on this trip. Being her first time, that was unlikely anyway. She just needed sex.

“So, when do you think we should go out again?” Her days in Seattle were numbered, and she’d already struck out on her first day here.

“Tonight. After your barbecue. Or is that too soon?” Tori shrugged. “I mean, we could go tomorrow.”

“No, you’re right. Jump back on that horse and all.”

But the idea of trying to find another guy who she could flirt her way into bed with sounded like a gigantic task on her to-do list. Heading back to Vegas with her virginity still hovering over her head? Not an option, though.

“God, it would be so much easier if I could just hire someone. Maybe they have guys in Nevada that do that. I know it’s legal with women—”
