Chapter Three

It sank in. She couldn’t possibly be… Could she? The idea left him speechless, but Kristen clearly had plenty to say still.

“All right, it’s weird admitting that aloud to you.” She gave a small laugh. “Or maybe not. Not when there’s zero chance of us sleeping together now.”

He blinked. “You’re a virgin.”

“Virgin, not leper.” Her smile died, and she shook her head. “And I’m not really appreciating your tone right now.”

“I just don’t understand.”

“What’s not to understand? I came up to Seattle with the intention of losing my virginity during vacation.”

“With a stranger?” Dismay had him stuttering.

“Does it matter?” She made a scissoring motion with her fingers. “Besides, no strings that way.”

How the hell did he reply to that? Jesus, what if he had slept with her? Would he have known? Would she have told him in the end?

He’d be a means to an end? A literal end of the V? Did girls do this kind of thing?

Alarm had him straightening. “Maybe you should wait for someone you actually—”

“Who are you? My dad? No, I’ve made up my mind.” She gave a rueful smile and touched his cheek. “It didn’t quite work out with you, Boy Scout, but I have the rest of the week to find someone else. No big deal.”

Before he could reply or keep this argument going, she climbed out of the truck and jogged toward the apartment building.

The door closed behind her, and he shook his head, still trying to process the last two minutes.

She’s not your problem, Blake; let it go.

He clenched his jaw, started his vehicle again, and then drove away.

“This is funand all”—Tori murmured, staring down at her toes being painted—“but I’m kind of disappointed you’re not giving me a blow-by-blow of your night of hot sex.”

“Blow-by-blow.” Kristen snorted. “I see what you did there.”

“You’re such a dork.”

“I will never deny that.” With a grimace, Kristen leaned back against the massaging chair.

Her headache from last night had faded significantly after a couple Tylenol and a delicious lunch. Now that they were done with massages and getting their mani-pedis, she felt just about normal. Maybe nursing more of just an emotional hangover now. She’d all but thrown herself at Blake last night. And just like Paul, he’d rejected her.

“It’s just so lame,” Kristen added. “Who could’ve predicted that the hottest guy at the party would have such a staunch moral compass?”

“Not me.” Her friend pursed her lips and shook her head. “I really thought you had him in the bag. The guy looked like he’d screw a zombie if it still had a vagina.”

Kirsten burst out laughing and covered her mouth when the nail tech smiled.

“Okay, now don’t you think we’re getting a little cliché for judging him by his appearance? So what if he was hot?”

“Ridiculously hot,” Tori corrected.

“It still doesn’t mean he sleeps with anyone who shows interest.”

“I don’t know. I got the impression sex comes before food on his priority list.” Tori lifted a shoulder in a shrug. “You said you made out with him a little. Was the chemistry just not there? Or, oh my God, what if he’s one of those hot religious guys who doesn’t want to—”
