Chief laughed. “I watched your BPMs through life support. They finally went down just now. You two were going at it for well over an hour. Weapons, are you okay?”

BPMs? I couldn’t figure out the word, and I was still waiting for the Hive Mind to update my vocabulary, but it was taking longer than usual. I decided not to worry about it just now.

“She’s fine,” I said. “Now that she’s truly my mate, she’s safer with me than with any of you.”

Chief snorted. “I’ll be the judge of that.”

“I am very good,” Weapons said, looking over at me and smiling. “Verygood. Chef…is this what you’ve had all along?”

“I’ve actually checked my vitals after sex, and I don’t think my heart rate’s ever been that high for that long…but yeah, basically. I think you probably understand now why High Command had us keep quiet.”

Weapons just nodded, and they started doing the woman “gossip” thing right in front of me, as if I weren’t even there.

I was tempted to listen, as much of what they were discussing was directly related to how good I had just made Weapons feel, but I was reaching out for my silver body—trying to send it a vague “wake up a little bit” command to make sure everything was okay, but I was not able to wake it at all.

This was concerning. Not only was that body half of me, and what I’d need to get Weapons pregnant, it was also my back-up plan. It would be a lot to lose.

I checked the Lexikon, the Hive Mind’s compiled data network that we could manually access and integrate into our own conscious awareness. Sometimes it was easy to integrate new information, other times it was more difficult. It was much easier to simply have it “make you good at speaking like a Human from Earth in the year 2100,” than it was at something like “make me understand the specific grammar rules of Eden’s official language.”

The nearly infinite knowledge from the Lexikon could quickly impart skills onto us, but understanding was limited. This meant it was not good at making you understand science. It could make you good at the physics of pointing and aiming a gun, but not at understanding the math behind it. I suspected this was intentional. The Hive Mind didn’t want us to be smart enough to poke at its own machinery.

The Lexikon came up. I looked up “BPM.” Beats per minute. It was classified as “archaic,” meaning that most human worlds and languages no longer used the acronym, but Eden must have held onto the term for one reason or another. I asked the Lexikon to integrate the word into my working vocabulary, just in case I forgot it when I heard it next time.

It didn’t work though. The Hive Mind wasn’t doing what it was supposed to.

You there?

It felt stupid. Even though I’d talked to it in my head before, I’d at least never started the conversation.

The whole attempt felt even more stupid when the Hive Mind didn’t answer me. Maybe I truly had imagined everything with the Hive Mind. There was no way it wasn’t real though. It had shut off my other body so I could cum. There was no denying that had happened.

I shifted my focus back to Weapons and to Chief. Chief was about to open the airlock. Weapons looked down at her clothes piled on the floor and frowned.

“What?” I asked.

“They’re going to have to decontaminate me again. I really might as well not bother putting the clothes back on.”

The thing with the Hive Mind lingered in my mind. I kept doing little checks in the background, trying to get it to show itself in various, subtle ways. None of them were working. It was if the Hive mind had just disappeared entirely.

An icy chill ran down my spine, but I forced myself to project strength, both to re-assure Weapons and to intimidate Crew Chief.

“We could ask to stay,” I suggested to Weapons.

“Huh?” Her eyelids still looked heavy. She was tired from the breeding. It would be best for the seed to stick if she laid down.

“If we stay in a quarantined part of the ship,” I said, “then we can stay together without you having to be denominated every time you see me.”

She bit her lip and slid her jumpsuit on. “I feel weird walking around naked. Especially after sucking your dingdong right in front of Chef. I really did that, didn’t I?”

I nodded. “The urge to breed was strong for both of us. Even if Hypatia doesn’t understand it now, she’ll understand it once she sees the Breeding Swarm make full contact with your world.”

“I just,” she said, reaching up and touching her neck. “There are things I would never do. That was one of them. Doing that in front of someone? It’s like I wasn’t myself. I wouldn’t do that right now even. I must have been really out of it when I did that.”

I nodded. “Because you just came, the urge is mostly gone, but it will return soon, My Weapon, which is why I advise you to stay here close to me.

She looked down at my cock and smirked. There was a little glow in her eye as she looked up at me. “I can see myself having that urge again soon. Yeah.”
