“No,” Hive said, “shaking his head. It’s perfectly calculated. No scion would let women die. They’ll protect the women above all else. High Commandwillget some women onto every packship before they are forced to land. It’s a brilliant move. Was it your idea, Chief?”

Chief glared at him. “It doesn’t matter whose move it was.” The corners of her mouth turned up a little bit though, so it must have been her idea. Women from Eden treated modesty as if it were a virtue. It was the opposite for us, but I respected them for this difference. “The fact remains: I get a lot of our High Command embedded into Khetar packs.”

“Send a scientist with each shuttle,” Hive said. “Even if you have to send non-immune women, their ability to apply their knowledge will be temporarily disrupted as she has two Khetar breeding her, but once she’s fucked a few dozen times and has satisfied the initial breeding urge, she’ll be able to help the pack a lot. Sure, the lesbians will be laser-focused from the start, but even straight women will be strong, long-term assets. And not just for reproduction.”

“You’re so romantic, Hive,” Chief said, visibly cringing. “Though I think I agree with your cold-hard calculation, so I’ll take that into consideration. Now let’s sit you down and have you tell us as much future science as we can squeeze out of you.”

I followed them through the corridors. We passed several crew women as we walked, many of which hadn’t been in the mess hall when Hive and I had tainted everyone. Still, most of the women from the surface had been tainted already as well. Most of the women we passed by stopped and stared. Some got visibly hot and bothered, but it wasn’t like it had been in the mess hall. They’d had enough time from initial contact that they no longer were falling to their knees or throwing themselves at us.

We eventually reached a door to a larger room, one where multiple women could sit down and ask Hive questions behind a screened-off booth, which had already been prepared in the center of the room. There were six or seven women seated in the booth, and from the way they didn’t react at all to us entering the room, I realized some software must have been blocking off their view of us. It was a primitive technology, really, but with the Hive Mind gone, this level of technology was the highest we’d have access to a month from now. The technological edge gave the women power over us in many ways, but once the babies started coming, we’d share all power through our progeny.

“We need to start now,” Chief said.

Hive held a hand out to me. It was the human goodbye gesture, and one I’d never used. I reached out and awkwardly took his hand in mine. It was a hand that had long been a part of me, and now it wasstilla part of me, just in a much different way. Hive was part of my triumvirate now. He was my Brother. Soon we’d be fathers together. I’d still punch him in the face when he deserved it, but I was entrusting him to keep our lifemate safe. All of that went without saying, so neither of us said anything. We just nodded our heads as we shook hands. It was another human gesture.

We’d have to adopt a lot of human culture and mannerisms. I honestly didn’t even know what it meant to be Khetar without a packship and without the Hive Mind. We had always been nomads. What the women here had made for themselves seemed to have been working despite the deeply repressed breeding urge, so why not take some cues from them?

Then Chief sat Hive down, and I lingered with Weapons in the doorway.

“You have to go now, don’t you?” she asked.

I nodded. The faster I could get the intel about Hive to Tharkur, the bigger the edge my pack would have. That edge would end up greatly benefiting my triumvirate. If theInseminatorswere on the ground and coordinated early, we could give ourselves a serious edge and foothold as a powerful and influential pack on the surface of Eden. Without packships, things like controlling land mattered. Securing a safe, friendly foothold on Eden for my family hinged on making a bee-line for Eden rather than twiddling our thumbs in space, like I expected Thuliak to do.

“You’re safe with him,” I said.

I already felt what we called the “separation urge.” My body knew my seed had been firmly planted, and it also knew I needed to give my Third time to plant his. It’s not that I didn’t want to see Weapons or be with her, it’s just that I knew I had to not be with her before I could reallybewith her, and the faster I got away, the faster I could be back together with her.

It didn’t make much sense thinking about in the human language, but it was a distinct feeling I had in my balls, like a big longing ache, and I knew through millions of years of instinct that the ache wasn’t going to go away untilIwent away for a while.

Still, I didn’t want to let her go, and we clung to each other. My cock got hard, and that’s when my ballsreallystarted aching, and I had to pull away.

“I’m going to get our guys on the surface,” I said. “We’ll make it safe for you.”

“Weapons,” she said.

“Weapons,” I said. “I know I’m supposed to change your name with your role, but for me, you’ll always just be Weapons.”

“And your good little girl,” she said, smirking.

I laughed, the aching spread from my balls to my heart. “Yeah. That too.”

“I wasn’t saying my name though,” she said. “I meant actual weapons. Make sure you bring them. Weapons will be even more important down there. It’s my name for a reason. Can your weapons work without the Hive Mind?”

“That’s never been a relevant question.”

“Start asking it,” she said. “Don’t be dumb without your big robot brain. You’re going to have to start thinking differently, Kaav.”

“Yeah,” I said. “Being smart is a weapon too.”

I’d learned that as a spy. I had an edge over other Khetar who relied much more heavily on the Hive Mind than I had.

She nodded. “Being smart is good, but bring real weapons too.”

“Yeah,” I said, and then I went in for one last kiss.

Our tongues danced together. I felt a vivid flashback of that deep orgasm pulse through me. It took away the aching pain in my balls, and I became one with Weapons again. This time it felt a bit off though, because I could sense Hive a dozen or so meters away even with my eyes closed. Was it a residual link between the bodies? Now there wasn’t a completeness in just me and Weapons being one together, because we were only truly complete when we were three.

It still felt fucking good though when she sucked on my tongue. The sound of her moaning made me hard as steel.
