I raced past the cabin and down the ramp, drawing another arrow and shooting at the guy attacking Jorik as I ran. I caught this guy in the cheek, and he screamed in agony, but his distraction gave Jorik the opening he needed to grab the guy’s Yakku blade and run him through in the abdomen, then push him off the dock into the water.

That left two super soldiers still breathing.

But not for long.

Jorik went to help Zane, and in a matter of seconds, they had their assailant stabbed three times in the neck and bleeding out as he fell into the water.

I ran up to the guy fighting with Rix, and when he turned his back on me, I stabbed him six times in the kidneys, then tossed my dagger down and drew my Yakku blade across his throat, nearly removing his head clean from his body.

With the adrenaline fueling me, I tossed the dead body into the water with the rest of them, then stared at my panting and bloody men.

Thank God they all seemed to be in one piece.

Cuts and scrapes marred their faces and arms; Zane had a split lip, and Jorik was developing a black eye, but they were still standing, still breathing, and that was what mattered the most.

All of our chests heaved with spent efforts from our fights, but just as I was taking inventory of their injuries, they were taking inventory of mine.

“You okay, Wildcat?” Rix asked, shoving his fingers into his hair.

I nodded. “I think so. You guys?”

They all nodded.

Those two extra heartbeats—no, wait, five extra heartbeats—were closer than ever. Where did the other three come from? How had I not felt them before?

I spun around just as five figures lazily walked down the ramp three more heavily armed, full-face-helmet-wearing super soldiers with automatic rifles in their hands, a white-blonde Hellcat in a blood-red leather catsuit and a broad-chested man probably six feet four with a black leather mask partially covering his face.

My breath snagged in my throat like a fish hook, and my knees threatened to give out. He didn’t need the mask. I would know that man, that walk, thatpresenceeven if he was wearing a giant bear costume.

Commander Moord.

He slowly clapped his leather-gloved hands. “Well done, my pet,” he practically purred, stepping onto the dock, the Hellcat coming to stand behind him while the three super soldiers made their way to stand behind Rix, Jorik, and Zane.

His nickname for me,my pet,had the bile rising up my throat and creating a thick film on the back of my tongue.

Moord grinned as he came to a stop in front of me. “Your skills are still as sharp as ever, my girl. I trained you well.” He flicked his gaze over my shoulder to the guys. “And even without your enhancements, you three prove to be some of my best soldiers. I take full credit for that.”

“Such a fucking egomaniac,” I muttered, rolling my eyes and shaking my head.

The cane came out of nowhere, and he beat me in the side of the leg with it before I could step out of the way. “Language! I raised you better than that.”

Had I known it was coming, I would have been able to stop myself from falling, but I hadn’t expected him to bring his cane, so when it snapped out and caught me in the knee, I was unprepared and fell to the side with a colorfully grunted, “Fuck.”

That, of course, only earned me another whack from his cane, this time to the ribs.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw all three of my guys lurch forward, but the guns being shoved into their backs had them stopping before they moved too much.

I sat there in a heap for a moment, glaring up at the man who had raised me. The man I hated more than any other human on this planet and who I thought was dead.

“How?” I asked, shaking my head. “How are you alive?”

Moord’s smile was evil incarnate. He flicked his gaze to Rix. “Double-tap center mass or three to the head, my boy. You know better than that.”

Rix ground his teeth so hard, he was probably going to chip a tooth.

Moord glanced at the white-blonde Hellcat beside him. “Didn’t know we had another Hellcat en route, did you? Arrived just in time, didn’t you?”

“Yes, Commander,” she said with a proud smile before turning her attention to Zane, her eyes so soulless and evil, it gave me chills. “Long time no see, Zane.” Her voice was now a sexy purr, her smile sinister. “How’s Chance?”
