“Where’s here?” Finch asks quickly, his voice a lot calmer than my brain right now.

“We’re at the hospital,”

“Fuck. Oh Fuck, Where’s Ali? Why’s she there?”

“Max! Fucking get here. She’s gone into labour.”

“She’s what?” It’s Finch. I hear him talking, listening to him conveying with Emma exactly where they are but it’s like I can’t move. I’m stuck. I’m here. She’s there. She’s— She’s gone into— She’s—

“She’s early!!”

“Yep. And you’re going to be late. Come on please, Max, she doesn’t want you to miss this.”

There’s some commotion, a few cries and shouts from the pitch below and a knock on the door before Danny re-enters.

“Everything okay in here,I spy no dead bodies.”

“Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck,” I start.

“What’s happened. Is everything okay. Do you guys want some more space?” Danny asks.

“No, mate. No, we need a fucking car, and we need it quick. My best mate’s about to become a daddy,” Finch tells him, his voice a mix of panic and this dominating, controlling kind of vibe I’d never really noticed before. He turns to me, looks me straight in the eyes, his blue’s wide, like a stormy sea.

“Focus, Baines.” He grips a hand on my arm. “Come on. This is the biggest show of your life and you’re going to smash it out of the fucking ballpark, mate, but we need to get you to your girl.”

“My Girls,” I whisper softly as he nods at me before grabbing my arm, pulling me along in case I freeze up again and head for the door.
