“I’m going to see Minnie Mouse, too!”

Journey fought the smile itching to break free at the defeated look Laz threw at her over Arielle’s shoulder.

The big softy. There was no way he could say no to their daughter.

“I guess we should go and pack your suitcase, huh?” Journey said.

“Ari?” Collin called from the hall before showing up in the doorway. “What you doing?”

Journey smiled. He was a cutie and the spitting image of Myles. His hair was cut low, and he had smooth, tawny-brown skin and chubby cheeks, even though he was thin. And then there were those onyx eyes that held the same intensity as his father’s. Journey found it hilarious that he also had Myles’s cool and calm demeanor, even at a young age.

Arielle scooted off of Laz’s lap and ran to the door. “Hurry, Mommy. We gotta go to Disney World!”

“I’ll be right there,” Journey said and glanced at Laz. “Can she go?”

He released a long sigh and stood. “Yeah, but not without a security detail.”

Journey smirked. “Good luck in telling my dad that.” She might’ve tossed the idea out there, but she didn’t know Laz would go for it. “He’s not going to take too kindly of you thinking he’s too old to take care of his grandkids.”

“Yeah, whatever,” Laz mumbled.

“Why don’t you try and get some rest?”

He was already heading to the bed before Journey could get all the words out of her mouth, and she grabbed a pair of pajama bottoms from his drawer and took them to him.

“Do you need help with your shirt?” He was wearing a black button-down that Mason had brought to the hospital. “And it might be time to change your bandage,” she said, starting toward the bathroom for supplies.

“Not right now,” he said, stopping her. “I just…I just need a little sleep.”

Without removing the sling from his arm, he gingerly laid back against the mattress and closed his eyes. Within seconds, he was snoring.

Journey stood there with her heart full and just watched him. For the umpteenth time that day, she thought about how she could’ve lost him and Arielle.

He’d said that it would’ve killed him if anything had happened to her, and she knew that type of fear. She couldn’t imagine her life without him. It didn’t matter if he was as stubborn as a mule or if he was often difficult to deal with. She loved him.

As she walked out the door, Journey realized she had won a couple of battles in the last few minutes. Yet, the hardest one—convincing him not to give up on them—wasn’t going to be as easy.

Her marriage was still in danger, and anI’m sorrywasn’t going to fix it.
