A few minutes later, the vehicle sped up.

“Okay, you can sit up,” Parker said. “Are you okay?”

Journey slowly lifted her head, then blew out an irritated breath. “Yeah, I’m all right. Just mad as hell.” And tired, hungry, frustrated…and the list went on and on.

She was also scared that this was just the beginning.

“Yeah, she’s fine,” Journey heard Angelo say. “Damn, man, chill. I told you she’s fine. What? You think we can’t do our jobs?” Though his voice was raised, there was humor in his tone, and Journey assumed he was talking to Laz.

“How you guys do this every day all day is a mystery to me,” she said to Parker as she dug in the side pocket of her laptop bag for her cell phone. It was clear they were well trained. They’d shielded her and got her into the truck without being trampled by the mob, and they didn’t seem shaken at all.

Parker chuckled. “All in a day’s work.”

Journey glanced at her phone screen and saw that she had a couple of text messages. Instead of reading them, she pulled up Prentice’s contact information. She needed to talk to him before doing anything else.

“Hello,” Prentice said when he answered the phone.

“Hey, it’s me. Please tell me that you didn’t tell anyone about Tamar,” Journey said quietly, but at the moment, she didn’t care if the guys in the truck were listening. She wanted to know how the media found out about the claims against Tamar.

“Not a word, but I’m going to find out who did,” he said with conviction. “We still on to meet at Supreme?” he asked.

Journey confirmed and filled him in on the latest, including being ambushed by the media. When she was finished her recap and gave him instructions on the next steps, she huffed out an exhausted breath.

I just need this day to be over.
