She had a vague recollection of the man suggesting she take a nap but parsing what wasn’t a product of her psychedelic state still wasn’t easy.

“I uploaded that special font, and it made it easier.”

Wow.

“Who did you say you were?” she asked, and that question elicited a cocksure grin from her husband.

“I said I was Landy Candy, filling in for Bonbon Barbie.”

This guy was full of surprises.

“Not bad, and you stuck with the sweets theme. Did anyone recognize you?”

The boyish half grin returned. “I started the lesson teaching the notes of the treble clef with a little more than a couple dozen viewers and ended it with a few thousand.”

“A few thousand?” she shot back, wide-eyed. She’d never gotten close to that number.

He shrugged. “Give or take.”

“Give me your laptop. I need to look at my page.” She opened the internet browser and found her page—which had clearly gotten a bump from Landon Paige. Her likes and follows had exploded. She scanned the screen, found his lesson, and hit play.

A bubbly happiness took over as the lesson unfolded.

Landon was a natural.

That smile. The honesty in his eyes. The warmth in his tone. He beamed as he placed the magnets on the board and taught theexceptional girls bake delicious fudgeacronym.

She couldn’t have done a better job if she’d planned for a week.

“You’re good at this.”

“Yeah?”

“Have you ever thought about teaching?”

He looked at her as if she’d suggested he swim a few laps in piranha-infested waters. “Um…no. I hated school. You know that.”

She looked up from the laptop. “What do you call what you did today?”

“Filling in for you.” He shrugged, but the hint of a grin pulled at the corners of his lips. “I have to admit, it was kind of exhilarating. I was a little freaked out, but I’ve watched you tape a few lessons, and you’re always working with Aria. I must have picked up a little Bonbon Barbie magic.”

It blew her mind to think she’d pegged him as a self-absorbed musician once upon a time. But this double-dog dare of a marriage had given her another perspective on the man.

Could this be more than a marriage of convenience?

“And there’s more,” he said softly.

At the mention ofmore, she startled.

Was he reading her mind?

“What more is there?” she asked, pushing the more thoughts aside.

Honestly, whatmoredid she want him to say?

She couldn’t let her heart override her head. Even with the shroom-pops and Landon’s presence lessening the impact, what she’d lived through with Vance was proof of what happened when she ignored her head and gave in to her heart. She couldn’t put herself in the position to be used and abandoned again. Enough damage had been done by her parents and her ex.

Landon leaned forward and tapped the side of the laptop. “Open the file on the desktop labeledNew Tracks.”
