Chapter37

LANDON

What the hell was Mitzi talking about?

There was no way Leighton and Trey wanted out of Heartthrob Warfare.

Mitzi wasn’t making any sense. She must be mistaken.

He’d parted with Trey and Leighton on good terms.

It was supposed to be the beginning of a new era for the band.

He shook his head. “That’s not true, Mitzi. They couldn’t want out.”

“Honey, that’s what they wanted.”

Anger roiled in his chest. “The last time I spoke with Leighton and Trey, we’d argued.”

“I know,” she said gently.

“I was angry and unloaded on them, but we worked it out.”

“I know that, too.”

It was as if they were talking in circles.

He scrubbed his hands down his face, then returned his cap to his head. “Then why are you saying they wanted out?”

“Leighton and Trey were going to make the new album with you, and then they wanted out.”

Her words hit like a punch to the gut.

Still, she had to be wrong.

“Mitz, it was our dream to go back to our old sound. It’s all we talked about until…”

He clamped his mouth shut.

Until Leighton found out she was pregnant.

His manager glanced at him. “Trey and Leighton’s dreams changed.”

He was figuring that out. “What was their new dream?” he asked and deflated into the seat.

“They wanted to open a music school and teach.”

“A school?” he fired back as his posture went rigid.

“More like a music center for children and teens who learn like Aria.” Mitzi paused. “For people like you.”

He swallowed hard. “I don’t believe you.”

“It’s the truth. They hadn’t purchased a building, but they’d scouted locations in the city.”

He shook his head. “No.”

“Trey and Leighton asked me to have the paperwork ready to dissolve the partnership and remove them from Heartthrob Warfare once you’d completed the new album. Like I said, they were doing it for you.”
