“No. There’s too much sausage at the table. I’m here for platonic moral support. You three are a lot to handle. Something tells me she’ll need my help.”

I smiled at that. If today’s meeting proved anything, it was that she was right. “Fair enough.” I made eye contact with each of the men. “Whatever happens, her safety is the most important thing. I think we can all agree on that.”

“Agreed,” Thorne said, turning his attention to Kingston. “Are you in?”

The wolf remained silent, a muscle in his jaw ticking furiously as he considered the question. “Fine,” he spat, the words seeming to cost him. “Since you seem to already have been inside what’s mine, I suppose I have to let you keep her safe.”

I had to hand it to Thorne; he managed to keep his cool and not rise to the bait. He held out a palm, waiting for Kingston to shake on the agreement. When the shifter finally took the offer, Thorne then turned to me. “Viking?”

I took his hand in mine, surprised by the strength of his grasp as we shook on our pledge. “For Sunday.”

“Aw, would you look at that? Miracles do happen. Can I get you to kiss and make up now?”

“Don’t push your luck, witch.”

She held up her hands. “Got it. This is a no swords crossing zone.”

I laughed. “So what now? Do we draw straws and pick shifts?”

“If we’re going to do this, we have to make it seem as normal as we can for her. Sunday Fallon doesn’t like to be told what she can or can’t do. Trust me, I know.” Kingston’s voice held a note of regret, which surprised me. “We’ll need to put ourselves in her path and keep an eye out without letting her know we’re working together.”

“Do you really think she won’t figure it out?” Thorne asked, his voice laced with amusement. “You must not know her as well as you think you do. She’s no fool. She’ll sniff you out the second you start paying attention to her.”

“She may, but if we tell her the plan, she’ll refuse. This way, we don’t give her a choice. Wherever she is, one of us is there.”

“Force her. Of course that’s your tactic.”

Kingston snarled a harsh, “At least I don’t abandon her every single time I get scared.”

“Oh, for fuck’s sake,” I sighed, stepping between them. “Let’s just do our best to be discreet, and when the time comes to reveal our hand, we tell her the truth. Until then, it might be good if you two stay away from each other. You’re about as pleasant to be around as a bare ass against a cactus.”

“We take shifts. Communicate when we’re taking her anywhere. More than one of us should be nearby if she’s off campus. That includes the club, Thorne. She can’t be alone. Not ever.” Kingston’s posture was tense, ready to fight.

“And when you need to hunt, let one of us know,” I told Thorne, noting the dark circles under his eyes. A clear sign the vampire hadn’t been feeding. “I’m not going to take her from you. I swear it.”

“As if you could,” he drawled.

I didn’t respond to that. “You are no good to her weak. And no matter how much you posture, you are weak. I can smell it on you.”

“All I can smell is her pussy on him,” Kingston bit out.

Moira glared at him. “Where her pussy has or hasn’t been is none of your business, dog boy. Stop with the temper tantrum because she doesn’t want to play with little Kingston.”

“There’s nothing little about him, I assure you.”

Moira rolled her eyes. “Men,” she sighed. “You all seem to forget the things I can do with my fist are far more impressive than what you can do with that piece of meat between your legs.”

That shut us all up. I gaped at her, trying not to picture what she was describing.

“Thorne, you need to go hunt. There’s no way around it. Kingston, you take the first shift. Don’t you have a session with her today, anyway?” Moira asked.

He gave her a tight nod. “I do. I’m already late for it.”

“Then off you go. No need to give her more reasons to hate you.” As he turned away, she called, “But, Kingston? A word to the wise. You can’t call her your mate and then turn around and shove your cock inside the first willing hole you find and expect her not to be upset. Keep that in mind for the future, will ya?”

“Looking out for her includes her emotional wellbeing,” I told him, my voice hard. “You hurt her in any way, wolf, you answer to me.”

“And me,” Thorne echoed, solidifying our future as a team. From here on out, Sunday had at least two men pledged to remain at her side no matter what. Kingston would come around... or he’d be removed from the equation.

The choice was his.
