ChapterThirty-Three

KINGSTON

Where the fuck was she? I paced along the shore of the lake, trying to catch Sunday’s scent. Praying for there to be no trace of her because I couldn’t handle it if she’d been there and left, or worse, been taken while I’d been preoccupied with the witch and her plot. All I smelled was earth and the slightly muddy aroma of stagnant water. Not a hint of the sweet lilac that called to me even when I was asleep. Even though I tried like hell to keep it out.

It had been worse ever since I’d seen the broken look in her eyes while I pounded into... what was her name... Hope?

The proof that Sunday had felt something, anything, more than lust and indifference had torn me apart. If I thought there was any chance she might actually care about me, I never would have done it. No matter how badly my balls ached and how desperate I’d been for release, there was no substitute for my mate. I sank myself willingly into the first girl who’d said yes, chasing the mind-numbing pleasure as a tool to push Sunday away.

But it hadn’t worked.

The truth was, I’d all but lost my hard-on until Sunday burst through the clearing and I locked eyes with her. Without warning, that need, that primal desire to fuck and claim and mark her came roaring to the surface, and I couldn’t have stopped the orgasm even though I wanted to. But it wasn’t for the girl under me. It was all forher.

Sunday.

My mate.

Every single time, it was for her. Ever since the day I first laid eyes on her. She owned my body and my soul. Whether she wanted them or not.

And I wished I could hate her for it.

My phone buzzed in my pocket, dragging me back from the memory of my betrayal. Fucking Moira. How did she even have my number?

“Hello, witch. Miss me already?”

“Ha! Not likely. I was calling to inform you that you’re failing already, asshole. Sunday is in our room when she’s supposed to be with you.”

“Goddammit. Stubborn wolf. Keep her there. Leave the door unlocked.”

I hung up before she could respond, shoved my phone into my pocket, and stalked back the way I came. She had avoided me over the last week, and I wasn’t letting it happen anymore. Her time for pouting was up.

I caught her scent as soon as I reached the stairwell, and my cock stood up and took notice as well. “Down, boy,” I muttered, taking the stairs two at a time. I was on her floor in no time flat, not even bothering to knock as I sent the door to her room crashing open.

Sunday looked up at me in shock, her expression shifting from surprise to anger in half a second. “What the hell do you think you’re—”

I crossed the room and flung her over my shoulder. I wasn’t here to listen to any more of her shit. She was coming one way or the other. We’d get to the good kind of coming eventually, but for now, this would have to do.

I chuckled as her tiny fists hammered on my back. My arm banded around her thighs held her tightly in place, her wolf already bending to the Alpha who had her in his grasp. It felt good to touch her, even if I was pissing her off.

And anger was sort of like foreplay for us at this point. Once we worked out all our shit, we would be explosive. I just knew it.

My wolf pushed at me, begging me to take her back to my room rather than the lake, asking me to give in to my instinct, which screamed to take her and make her mine. But I couldn’t. I wouldn’t touch her that way until she was begging me for it. That first time in the library, when I’d lost control and let my wolf take over, had been crossing a line I’d promised never to cross again.Iwas in control, not my beast.

“I swear to God, Kingston, put me down right this instant or—”

“Or you’ll what, exactly?” People popped their heads out of their rooms as I hauled her down the hallway, my goal in sight, the stairs. “No one here is going to help you. They know you need training. They’re all still afraid you’re going to snap and kill them.”

“That was a low blow, you sonofabitch.”

“Oh, keep talking dirty. It turns me on.”

That shut her up, which made me laugh. It shouldn’t be so much fun getting her riled up.

“I’m sure one of your harem of willing women will be thanking me then. Do you have someone lined up to bend over a rock after I leave?”

Her anger meant she still cared. It was her indifference—and her pain—that cut me apart. Anger I’d gladly face all day long. It meant there was a chance my wolf and I would get exactly what we wanted. And anything that ended with me sinking balls deep inside Sunday Fallon was worth the wait.

I stopped, dropping her so her body slid down the front of mine. Her shock held her still as I caught her gaze, holding her chin between my thumb and forefinger. “Listen up, Sunshine. I’m only going to say this once. From now on, the only woman I’m bending over anything is you.”
