“Grace likes everyone.”

“She’s a good judge of character, man,” Kyran argued. “Too good sometimes …” His voice trailed off as he looked out through the open shutters.

“Are you okay?” I asked.

“Nothing is wrong with me. And you seem to have enough problems on your plate without poking your nose into mine.”

“You strolled into my town, bud.”

He laughed. “Yeah. I did. Max wants to bring the follow-up meeting forward to next week. He’s got more intel on the central packs we discussed at the last meeting. He wants to talk about bringing more packs into the alliance, too.”

“It’s wise. We’re four-packs, four strong packs, and a collection of the largest in North America, but if the smaller packs were to ally against us …”

“Max doesn’t think it will come to that, not according to his intelligence, but he wants us prepared.”

I nodded. “I understand. And I need to speak with you all anyway, so it does me a favor. I can play with the bounty hunter for a week and keep her here, but I need to come up with a plan within our laws to take out Gideon. Usually, he’s just a pain in my ass, one I need to keep an eye on, but the fact someone has found this town shows he’s getting closer.”

“If she’s got her wits about her, she’s not going to give your location away until she gets paid. You’ve got time.”

“Yeah,” I retorted. “Call me cautious.”

“Maybe she’ll open her legs for you? Solve all your problems.”

An unforgiving growl broke free from my throat and echoed around the garage. I snapped my jaw, needing to release pent-up energy that spiraled with a sudden rage.

Kyran got to his feet, on guard. “Donovan. Your wolf. Pull him back.”

“Pull what back!” I roared, but then I heard it. I’d slipped up and my wolf was trying to take charge. Swallowing hard, stretching my neck. I howled. I couldn’t help it. But with pure bullishness, I clamped it down, coughing to expel the lump it left in my throat. The sweat dripped from me. I flinched at Kyran’s comforting hand on my back. “Donovan?”

“I’m good.” I nodded, wiping the perspiration from my brow.

“You sure?”

“Yeah,” I bit out. “I think.”

“Well, I don’t. I think you’re screwed, buddy.”

“She’s not that hot,” I growled, knowing what he was getting at.

“No harm no foul if I go see if she wants to suck on my cock, then?”

Burning heat of pure, guttural fury hit me at his words. I stood so fast that the chair crashed against the floor, leaping toward him. The wolf and human in me united in snatching his neck and crushing him against the wall.

“What’s going on!” Grace shouted from behind us. My wolf whimpered at her voice but held steady. The animal would protect Grace from us both at all costs, but it also wanted to tear my friend apart for even thinking about Savannah that way.

Kyran winked at her in reassurance, a slow smirk curling his lips.

“What the…?” I released him in surprise.

“Kyran.” Grace hurried to his side, but he brushed her off and she quickly hid her hurt.

“I’m sorry,” I breathed, trying to find my footing.

“What’s going on?” Grace demanded.

“Donovan’s got a boner for Savannah the Bounty Hunter,” Kyran laughed. “Let’s hope it’s not the stirrings of the mate magic.”

“Screw you, asshole!” I gave him the finger.
