Page 9 of Hunting the Alpha

A plan.

The bounty hunter wouldn’t get a cell phone signal here, no towers within range. And the Fulham sisters, who maintained the main switchboard, I’d instruct them to monitor all outgoing calls from the inn and the two payphones in town. Lilly wouldn’t mind. We all knitted together here when needed. They trusted me to keep the town safe, and keep it safe I would.

Grace could check for any tracking devices or GPS on Savannah’s truck while it was at the garage. That would cover the bases regarding Savannah being followed and Gideon knowing the town’s location. I’d head to the garage next. Cover my bases. Make sure the town was safe and get my wolf away from that scent so I could calm down and not march in there to fuck the hunter senseless. Tired. Horny. That’s all I was. Nothing else.

Savannah disappeared into the inn, thank goodness. I banged the steering wheel in frustration. The town comes first, Donovan,I reminded myself. And I needed to make sure my people were safe from any unwanted surprises.

Fighting hard against the need to go inside and take her against the wall while demanding her price, I took a breath. But control was my motivator, not wanting the hunter to have an advantage over me, so I put the truck in drive and got the hell out of there.

I stopped at Grace’s garage to see Kyran visiting and talking to Luke.

“Hey, guys,” I greeted. “Is Grace here?”

“No,” Kyran snapped, his brow furrowing. “Why do you ask?”

“Just want some information. And what are you doing here, anyway? Don’t you have a pack to manage?”

“Ha fucking ha.”

Kyran, more relaxed now, grabbed a chair Grace kept around for waiting customers. The garage didn’t have enough room for an official waiting area, but it wasn’t as if she was inundated with work and needed one. However, she did like to tinker, ordering in old cars to do up and sell online to keep the profits rolling in. It was something I admired about her.

She had a car on the ramp now, a ‘65 Mustang V8, partly restored. The other ramp held what I assumed to be Savannah’s pickup truck, still grounded.

I took advantage and rifled through it to see if there was anything important before Grace appeared and gave me an earful. I also checked around the truck and found no GPS. Nothing suspicious.

“What’re you up to?” Kyran glanced over, shoving his blond hair out of his eyes. He looked more like a beach-going regular with his tanned skin and the vest and shorts combo he favored. He certainly didn’t look like the alpha of a wolf pack. Sometimes, I’d risk a punch and call him, duuuuuuude. But lately, he didn’t appreciate it, giving me surly looks and marching off rather than telling me to go fuck myself.

I stopped my search of the truck and gave Luke a look. He picked up on my mood, and said, “I’ll go get an early lunch.” Then he disappeared.

Smart kid.

“I need to talk to you about our current visitor,” I said, grabbing another chair and sitting opposite Kyran.

My friend’s eyes lit up. “I hear she’s hot.”

A growl rumbled through my throat, surprising me. I glossed over it before Kyran noticed. “You might not think that when I tell you she’s a bounty hunter after my ass. One from Idaho. Not far from Gideon Fletcher.”

“Shit. You’re sure?”

“Yes. I’m sure. It took a decent amount of money thrown at it for me to get the information in such a short time frame. But I plan to find out more tonight. I might hunt her down, claim I’ve arrived home early, and make an earlier appearance. Ask her to dinner.”

“Might be a bit late for that,” Kyran replied. “She’s going out for a beer with Grace.”

“She is?”

He nodded.

“Alright.” I rubbed my chin and thought about it. “I can play that angle. I’ll make an excuse to join them.”

“And what’s your plan after that? Screw the bounty hunter into submission?”

“Now who’s hilarious? I want her to lower her guard, let her think she’s gaining intel on me. I want to find out more before I do anything twisted. And trust me, I’m angry enough to want to do that.”

“She’s not the first hunter to come after you,” he reminded me.

“No, but she’s the first one to find the town. And if the money-hungry bitch wants her pay-day, she’ll need to play nice to sell me out.” I sighed, my inner wolf gnawing at me for calling her a bitch. “I came here to see if Grace knew anything more.”

“Grace seems to like her.”
