“It’s only right.”

“And I’m glad it’s your balls on the chopping block, not mine. You’ll find her in Hayley’s cabin, most likely, with the weather as it is. She’s set up a salon, or spa, or whatever, up there. Getting nails done or something.”

“Thanks.”

Kyran lowered his voice. “What’s the game with Savannah?”

“You know what the game is.”

“I know what you think it is. But seriously, last night, I could have thrown a match on the two of you, and boom. Erupted into flames.”

“That was my intention.” I looked away. “She’s playing into my hands easily enough.”

He chuckled. “More like the other way around.” He patted my shoulder. “But before you go face off with Everleigh, there’s something I need to tell you. I spoke to Max this morning.”

“And?”

“They’ll come over for a few days to help you with your Gideon situation, as well as the other stuff. Harrison is coming, too, bringing Justin. We could have a cookout on Friday night. Make it a town thing.” He put up his muscled arm and thrust his fist in the air. “Ain’t no party like a Moonlight party.”

“Don’t do that around any woman you’re trying to impress. And I don’t have time to plan the cookout.”

“You don’t have to. I’ll call Emily and Frank. They’ll see it done. Emily is the mother hen of your town and loves that kind of thing. Frank will pull in the support to help her. And Grace’s parents will supply the food. They’ll bring along enough food and beer to last a month.”

“Yeah. They’re worse than college kids at a frat party. Do what you will. Just give me fair warning before you let Emily loose on me.”

Kyran laughed. “I will. I’m gonna go back to work now.” He knocked back the rest of his drink. “Good luck with Everleigh. You’re gonna need it. Holler if you need help from the banshees.”

Rolling my eyes, I left him to it, wondering why Kyran always exaggerated where Everleigh was concerned. So she was high maintenance. But she didn’t apologize for who she was, and I respected her for it. She also made waves in the bedroom. Nothing was beyond her, and she was up for anything. We’d wrecked a few beds before now, her liking it hard and fast, and me happy to oblige. But beyond the orgasm, there wasn’t much there. I’d tried it at the beginning, but our conversation wore thin fast, and we always ended up fucking, having something to eat, then fucking some more.

I’d confessed to her my reasons for sleeping with her, and she’d accepted us staying casual. Apart from me telling her I didn’t see her as my mate. That got me a few scratches. But other than that, we operated on the same page. I also knew she didn’t stay exclusive to me. The younger wolves bragged about it enough. I’d always used protection with her, so I wasn’t worried about it. Not that I had to do so. Wolves didn’t transmit diseases as humans did. But I didn’t want to dip my wick in the hole right after another brother without protection. I also didn’t want any cubs with Everleigh, wearing protection even when she begged me not to, claiming she was on birth control. I never risked it. I wasn’tthatstupid.

Knocking on the open door of Hayley’s cabin, music played in the background, and Hayley waved for me to enter.

Everleigh was having her nails painted by another one of the pack. Hayley returned to drying a woman’s hair.

“Hi Donovan,” Hayley greeted, the others doing the same—even though I couldn’t remember their names.

Everleigh’s bright blue eyes lit up with hunger when she saw me. The light, angelic curls that framed her face brought back good memories. Especially when I watched them bounce up and down as she sucked on my cock.

“I’ve missed you, baby,” she said huskily, giving me a wave with her free hand. But the dream I’d had screwed me over by creeping into my mind at those words, reminding me of the reason I’d come.

“Can I talk to you?”

She frowned. “I’m busy.” She tried to dismiss me, turning to talk to the woman doing her nails.

“It won’t take long,” I pressed.

“And I said, I’m busy. I’ll see you next week as we arranged.”

“That’s what I’m here to discuss.”

Her back straightened. She glanced over at Hayley and relented. “Fine. If your cock is that desperate, I don’t mind servicing you, baby.”

The others chuckled, even though Hayley blushed. Smug, Everleigh told them, “Give me a moment, girls.”

Blowing her nails, she followed me out, wobbling a little on her heels once we hit the grass. Why she wore them out here, living in such terrain, I had no clue. But I wasn’t about to ask her.

“So,” she said, waving her fingers and blowing some more on her nails, “what’s up?”
