I laughed. “What? Like how you’ve had your fun with women? Don’t go all double-standard on me, Donovan. I know how to kick your ass.”

His lip twitched. “I get you’ve had partners. I have, too. But I don’t have to like it.”

“Yeah. I get it. But I’ve never felt the way I did with anyone like I did last night. Does that help?”

“Much. And same here.” He lifted his cup, holding it high. I chuckled, raising my own to clink against it. “Guess we have to thank Fate.”

“Yeah.” A weight came then, fast and heavy. “Just a pity it had to happen this way.”

“Hey.” He reached for my hand. “We’re going to sort this shit out. I promise.”

“It still shouldn’t be on you.”

“Yes. It should.” He released my hand. “Now eat. I’ll tell you about my history with Gideon. But before that, I need to confess something. Something you might not take well when it’s laid out for you to see.”

“That sounds ominous.” I eyed him warily. “Are you a serial killer or something?”

He smirked. “No.”

“Evil villain?”

“No.”

“Yeah. You don’t have the twirling mustache for that.” I bit into the bacon. “I’m out of guesses.”

“I’m a wolf, Savannah.”

“Okay,” I drew out, wondering what the hell he meant. “Is that a metaphor for something?”

“No.” His face turned serious. “I’m a wolf. I can shift into a wolf. It’s my secret.”

“Are you trying to be funny?”

“No. I’m not. I’m telling you the truth. Would you like me to show you?”

I said nothing. I couldn’t say anything. My intuition flared in response, telling me to trust him. But my mind—my logical mind—wondered if I should run from the creek and never look back.

“I’m just going over here, okay?” He rose from his seat, speaking gently, waiting for me to bolt. “Wait there. Don’t take your eyes off me. And don’t run. That’s important. Do you hear me?”

I nodded, my brow furrowed.

“Good. Now, stay there.” He backed away, taking several steps from the table. “Keep watching.”

I did so, my eyes holding his.

He removed his jeans.Oh boy.He was naked underneath, and I couldn’t look away at the glorious sight of him. Who could blame me?

My willpower almost cracked, wanting to giggle while watching a guy I’d recently had sex with, preparing to turn into a wolf. I’d completely lost it. Or he had.

“Donovan,” I said, not comfortable with him making a fool of himself. What if he howled or began running around like a puppy? What the hell would I do then?

“Keep watching,” was all he said.

Before I could even comprehend his plans, I witnessed him morph into a wolf standing powerful in colors of white and grey. “Holy shit,” I whispered, dropping the food I held in my hand. My eyes grew wide. My brain tried to reach for an explanation but found none.

Donovan shifted back into a naked man and dressed quickly. My breathing quickened, and he rushed over to me. My wild eyes tried to focus on him.

“Breathe, Savannah,” he instructed.
