DONOVAN

It was a few days after the cookout, and Savannah’s deadline with Gideon drew closer.

I’d met with my brothers, deciding on the plan of getting her uncle free and clear before we acted on anything else. The rest was about goading Gideon into a challenge, and this time I planned on killing the bastard. But Savannah didn’t need to know about that.

I’d agreed to include her in on the plan of getting her uncle out of the firing line, but once done, she’d return here with Will, and I’d stay on in Idaho to rile Gideon into a fair fight. One thatwouldend in bloodshed.

Max wanted me to take him out in one swoop, wondering why I’d waited this long. Until Harrison reminded him of pack law—let alone the human laws. If we were to get other wolf packs invested in the alliance then we needed a firm foundation to build upon and live by the rules we made. If it got out that I’d killed Gideon outside of a challenge, then I’d be nothing more than a murderer to many. The grander plan was more important than my vengeance. But Savannah’s safety wasn’t, and that came first.

The two of us had become closer after the cookout as I took the time to get to know my mate. We talked and flirted, and yeah, had more sex. But I got to know another side to her, and I liked the rhythm we’d stepped into. We were comfortable with each other, and that was a good thing considering the mate connection wouldn’t allow us to be apart for long. The wolf would grieve, and the magic of the blood that now pulsed through Savannah’s veins would make her sick and cranky depending on duration and distance. But we’d work it out, test the boundaries so she could retain her independence. It was important for her to have that and be a part of the town after her upbringing and I wanted her to be happy.

The first test for us would be when I told her she’d be leaving Idaho with her uncle and I planned on staying behind. I dreaded the thought of being away so far from her but it was a one-off. It would also be good for us to get used to it for when I traveled for business if she didn’t want to travel with me. Although, I hoped she would. I planned on swaying her with sweet kisses and maybe a traveling art set for her to use on the road.

A smile curled on my lips, set in a happiness that was foreign to me. But I liked it.

Max and the others were returning this afternoon. We had to be ready for the first phase of the plan the day after tomorrow. They needed to organize their packs first, and Harrison had to spend time with Justin before leaving him for a few days. Justin would stay with Grace’s parents, with my people, since Harrison refused to stay out of it.

“Justin has already lost one parent,” Max had reminded him when he refused to budge on coming.

“I’m not his parent though, am I?” Harrison had replied bitterly.

“You’re all he’s got. You need to be responsible.”

“I am,” Harrison had retorted. “I’m leaving him with Phil and Joan. He’s excited about the sleepover. How is that not being responsible?”

“By risking your life instead of heading out for a few days to fish or hunt like you’re telling Grace’s parents you’re doing?”

“We’ll be fine. And I’m not letting you all leave without me. Deal with it.”

And so we had.

My thoughts drifted back to Savannah, until I caught Delilah’s knowing eye. Quickly, I dropped the smile, and called a close to the meeting I’d attended for the past few hours. The meeting with the town council had given me the chance to tell those I trusted most about what was happening with Savannah and Gideon. My head pulsed from their questions about the plan, about Savannah. I knew them well enough to give them what I needed before manipulating the conversation with supply ideas, the idea to put fencing on the outskirts of the town, and how local farmer Jim Garner now had two new calves to add to the animal inventory.

Rose, our local doctor. Delilah, the librarian. Matthew, my beta in charge and timber yard owner, then Emily’s Frank who ran the grocery store, were easy enough to sway when it came to the tedious day-to-day running of the town.

Closing the agenda was a relief. I said my goodbyes and managed a quick getaway before they could probe me any further about my mate and the man who used to be the pack alpha.

Damn it! My head pulsed, and I didn’t feel like cooking. One diversion to the diner to grab takeout later, and I was on my way home.

Home.

It felt good knowing Savannah was there waiting for me.

Entering the cabin, I shouted, “I hope you’re hungry. I grabbed takeout!” I took it into the kitchen, and my mate sailed in with a beautiful smile on her face and a hungry look in her eyes. But she wasn’t hungry for the food.

“You first.” She assailed my mouth. “Then food.”

Trailing down my body, I was glad I got to put the food on the counter when she began unfastening the buttons on my jeans. I stroked her hair. “Wanna eat, baby?”

“I’ve been wanting to eat this since I first laid eyes on you.” She sprung my cock free, already hard from the sight of her. She licked the tip and moaned. I moaned with her, eager to experience the inside of her mouth.

She took me in the best she could, flicking her tongue all around, and pumping me with her hand. She was so fucking soft. And when she tightened her lips around me and sucked me like a lollipop, I lost all fucking control.

“Savannah,” I roared, wrapping my hands in her long hair and holding her still so I could pump inside her pretty little mouth. She gripped my ass cheeks, forcing me to go faster, and dug her nails in.

I came with force and a roar, and she clamped her lips as I pumped out my cum inside her mouth. She took it, holding me there as she sucked every bit of my goddamn soul.
